I only feed my cats dry cat food it is actually better for them because it helps clean their teeth and they don't get that yucky kitty breath....on occasion I will however give them canned as a special treat. don't give them canned tuna no matter how much they love it or fish flavored canned food! there is too much ash and potassium in it and they can get a blocked urinary tract and could die if not taken care of....hope this helps!
I have had my Harley for 14 yrs. and he is still going strong...so strong in fact he scares the crap out of my german shepherd!..LOL

Many vets are finally coming to the conclusion that a diet of strictly dry food is not good for cats. They do not drink enough water to compensate for the dehydration a dry diet causes.

The quality of the food is important. And nothing you buy at the grocery store, canned or dry is good food for your cat. Fancy Feast is a very inferior and expensive product. So is Iams, any Purina, Science Diet.

You may have to go to a small, owner-operated pet store to get quality foods like Wellness, Natural Balance, Solid Gold, Felidae, Nature's Variety etc.

If you go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Selecting a Good Commercial Pet Food" you can learn what sort of stuff is in most foods that you would not want to feed to your cat. Dr. Hovfe also has an article titled, "Does Dry Food Clean the Teeth?". That should put that misconception to rest for you.

Dry food helps with better dental care. Since most cats don't chew like dogs I feel it is the better choice. Some foods like "Fancy Feast" can cause urinary blockages in male cats. They look like crystals under the microscope. I don't think a specific food has been pointed out as the problem, but that is a commonly fed food.

It is actually better. The moist food does nothing to remove plaque or tater from their teeth. I only feed moist food on holidays. When we have a big meal they get a can of food. Other wise they always eat dry food.

Many use a combination, but as long a the bag says "complete nutrition" or somthinng along those lines your cat will be getting everything he/she needs and you will save alot of $$$!!!

Both have the nutrition they need but many people believe that dry is better since it helps clean the cat's teeth.

I used to think so until my vet told me I have to start using soft food for his urinary health. He has crystals in his urine, making it hard to pass, and the moisture in the soft food helps disolve them. So now its just soft food. I think that they are both good for them, also hard food is cheaper. I guess its your call.
