we moved into a house recently, and the people before us had their sons bedroom chairrail line painted in Nascar, I asked them what technique they used and all they did was cut a sponge into squares and use white and black paint on them and make the flag design of Nascar. Your bedroom should be painted a calm green or blue not bright and not very dark. try home depot.com or lowes.com and find the perfect color for you.

It all depends on you. Do you have a favorite blanket, coat, fabric of any sort that you associate feeling safe and cozy in? What are the colors in it? If a color scheme works in a fabric than you can make it work in a room. Same with your 14 year old son. Does he have a fav in racing that has colors associated with them? Use those colors. Remember - only one color has to go on the wall, you can use the other colors in the bedding, sheets, curtains and other accessories.

Blue is the most obvious choice because it's such a calming color. But if you want to try something unique-looking, go with a soothing shade of purple. My friends back east thought I was crazy when I decided to paint my bedroom purple, but they were amazed with the results.

As for your son, have you asked him what colors he likes?

For your bedroom I would suggest a Taupe. It's a very neutral color, like a light brownish color, it's very popular right now.
For your son, what does he like? Wallpapers to Go has wallpaper that will cover one wall that looks like the outdoors, with many scenes to choose from. You'd wallpaper one wall to give it that open scenery look. Wallpaper is very easy to hang. Good luck and have fun with it!

What about a lilac or light mauve color or peach. Son's room, go with the safe light tan. He can "grow" into different interests with a basic color.

Might I suggest "Rainwashed" by Sherwin Williams, it's peaceful and serene. And for your son, why not use the same colors used by his favorite racer.
