If u want to bulk up, then eat anything & everything. The supplements u bought ( the powder drink ) u may think its good, but u dont need that stuff. U have to eat every 2 hrs. As simple as that. People that say they cant add weight ( dont do what they need to do ). Adding bulk means u are lazy and eat as much as u can. Are u an athlete or a weight lifter?

Both, and a little healthy fat! Here is why! Carbs are your muscles energy source, proteins are the building blocks (aka thats what you need to get bigger muscles) So when you excercise you need protein in order to build muscle, however if you dont replace your energy source (carbs) your body will eat and not grow muscles in order to make up for the lack of energy.

think of it like this, bigger cars (muscle) which are made out of well, car parts (protein)need more fuel (carbs). If you dont have enough fuel, whats the point of making a bigger car if all you have is enough fuel to drive the little one you currently own?

healthy fat (unsatuarated fats) in legumes, nuts, olive oils ect... help keep tissue together and are also needed!

Now regarding those expensive weight gainer drinks! try making your own out of two egg white, peanut buteer, ice cream and milk! I have heard of people who are trying to bulk up and they use this either alone, or in conjuction with other drinks( though they take less of the store bought drinks since they made their own)

To put on weight carbs is your best bet. Normally you'll get enough protein in your diet, we get too much usually. To gain muscle weight use heavier weights and do at least 3 sets for each muscle group every other day. Go to bodyforlife and look at their demos, they have some good ones.

both are important. 30% of your diet should be carbs. And weight gainers are very little help. The men in the advertisements don't use them.

As they said; protein and complex carbs.

You might also like to consult a personal trainer, to get some advice about workouts etc, as you may be doing something wrong that you've not noticed.

Out of interest, how old are you and height/weight. (If you don't mind)

Both, I would have thought.

To build muscle you need to lift heavier weights, but do less reps.
