Good news, he is feeling better! Nothing is more pitiful than a cat with a cold, they hunch and mope and sniffle and drool and sneeze rather liberally! He is now eating again, still sniffly, but no fever, so I am going to wait. Thanks to all the help!

No, just wait it out. If the cat isn't eating, then go.

i just went throught this with my kitties. it is very contagious between cats and not fun to get rid of either. a vet trip is in order because your cats have a cold they will most likely get a 2nd bacterial infecftion that can be serious. Most likeley your vet will put your kitty on antibiotics to prevent this. Also make sure that your cat is still eating and drinking! Because of this cold he/she will eventually not be able to smell food so most likely wont eat or drink. My kitties are really healthy and this happend...i had to give them special Ad Hills wet food and Pedialyte because they were dehydrated. Also try putting a few drops of Liquid echancia in their water. A vet trip is in order though. Good Luck its not much fun mine are just getting over theirs..they had it for a couple weeks. Oh yeah and dont give your cat asprin without a vet saying its ok and milk is horrible for cats to digest dont do that either. Dont ever give your cat medecine for humans without a vets permission this can kill your cats its nothing to play with. especailly benydryl and tylenol all that stuff is horrible.

If you had a cold, wouldn't you go to the doctor? Vet's have medicine for cats that they can give to them to make them feel better. My cat just got done getting over a cold, I had to give her medicine once a day, just a drop on her nose, and she would lick it off her nose, so it was easy for her to take it. =) The vet was able to diagnose her as having a cold by listening to her heart and other things that vets do. So yes, go take her in. The medicine only cost about $30, and the vet visit was only about $35.

Just a teaspoon of children's benedryll (have no idea how its spelled) twice a day for a big cat or once a day for a little cat should do. If she/he is still sneezing and have snot after a few days I would take them to see a vet. Also if you see that they are lethargic or won't eat, see the vet too.

Absoulutey! Feline upper respirtory infection is contagious to other cats and causes sneezing, wheezing, mucos, wet eyes and lowers the appetite in cats becuase they can't smell. It is comonly treated with "clavamox" drops an antibiotic. Isolate your kitty in the bathroom with a humidifyer to help break away mucos and produce better breathing. Secondary to URI you kitty could get pneumonia or worse...die. Dehydration is a problem too. SEE YOUR VET ASAP.

Since cats are not subject to the same viruses people get, there is no way to tell what is really wrong with your cat. You should take it to a vet to get a diagnosis and treatment recommendations.

I must agree with miz, how do you know your cat has a cold? If you think your cat is ill, then just bring it to the vet, thats what they went to school for. Good Luck Regards KG

I have to wonder how you know your cat has a cold. If he is not eatting or acting normally then yes. If he has a fever or some other sympom that is not normal for him, yes.

If the kitty's habits are the same them just let him fight it off. if it's obviously hurting him them take him to the vet and get some meds. make sure he has no snot blocking his nose. my cat had that a lot and had trouble breathing. but if you're worried about it then take it to the vet.
