The book-keep at my place of business keeps feeding our company dog(a stray we picked up) garbage-*** food like burgers and fried chicken and bacon and stuff. I tell her but shes ignorant(and yes, overweight herself).
Makes me so mad.

I don't guess I get "pissed off" about it but it does bother me because I am a Vet Tech and I have seen how sick it can make them.

The amount of the people food is the problem as well as the type of food. My vet suggests 2 cups of high quality dog food, not the kind with a grain listed first on the ingredients, for our 45 pound dog. We then give her treats during the day. Usually, the dog biscuit the mail carrier leaves in the mailbox and a few training treats. Sometimes, that is meat scaps from dinner. The important thing is to give the dog exercise to match the intact of food. Also, be sure your co-worker understands that besides chocolate, dogs shouldn't have onions, grapes, raisins and new studies are showing things with sugar substitutes (labeled "sugar-free").

Not so much I am into training dogs and if the motivation is for training my motto is use whatever works. If "she" is just feeding the dog garbage cause she thinks its cute then yes, that is crap. On the up side of things, as a stray, he is probably hunger and appreciates a tasty little snack, at least he's not hit by a car or something. Training should be the reason for feeding things you normally wouldn't, make the dog earn a reward.

While giving a dog a nibble of human food as a "treat" every now and again is not going to kill the animal. Giving the dog chicken on the bone is dangerous! The bones splinter while they are chewing and can create a serious chocking hazard. Try telling her that the dog has it's own food which is specifically designed to help keep the dog healthy and if she wants to give the dog every NOW AND AGAIN a little nibble of a burger that was fine. BUT NO BONES.

Not in moderation. Some" human" food in a dogs diet can actually be beneficial,as long as it's healthy foods - veggies, lean meats, fish, pasta, fruit, rice, etc.),and as long as it makes up no more than 15% of the total diet.Of course, there are exceptions.A complete diet can be made from human-grade foods,a lot of people are doing this-if the right ingredients are used, then it's probably better for the dog than commercial dog food. And someone made a point in saying that there was no dog food long ago,and so people had no choice but to feed their animals table scraps, and I'm sure a lot of those dogs lived long, healthy lives. But an excess of processed carbohydrates, greasy, salty,or spicy foods are not good for dogs as a total diet.

Yes. My mother came to visit in July and I told her the first day she got here that my dogs do not eat people food. Every time she ate something, she saved a bit for my dogs. She even fed them Frito's! It irked me to no end. Towards the end of her visit, my boxer completely stopped eating her food. That was where I drew the line. No more table food and my poor dog went hungry for 2 days before she ate her food. I am still having problems with her, too. I bought a sauce to put on her food that she likes, but she keeps throwing it up...

So YES, it really pisses me off!!

If that is all the animal eats than there is probably a problem, but if it is stray and has no other food, what would you feed it? If it bugs you, bring in some dog food for it to eat.

It depends on the people food. My cat gets a little bit. But it is always whole foods like cooked veggies, (She wont eat raw) and Monday after thanks giving, she got a little it of Turkey. She still east cat food 99% of the time though. I would never feed and animal anything off the fast food menu! It pisses me off when people feed there dogs human meals and then complain that they have no idea how they got that fat??? I have a sister in law like that. I like to spoil my animals, bit if it puts their health in jeopardy, forget it!

Ohhhh yeah! Canines in the wild eat nothing but grains that have been baked and stuffed with chemical imitations of vitamins and nutrients. Why should they want anything else as pets? And getting pissed off is one of those super-intellectual things we more highly evolved humans do to express our highly evolved intelligence.

Human thought processes are so impressive that it's not surprising we destroy each other in wars. Yeah! Get pissed! It's the only civilized thing to do!

Have you ever looked at the first ingredient of most dog foods? It's corn and no self respecting canine or wolf ever grazed through a field of corn on thier own. Dog food also contains all kinds of crap meat cuts, leftover restaraunt grease and rotten vegetables. Getting stuff that I eat is a step up from most dog foods. I cooked for my dogs for quite awhile and the ingredients were ones that I would have used for myself and all of them were people quality. The dogs are wonderfully healthy.

You are right. That kind of food is so unhealthy it should only be consumed by humans. I do feed my pets what could be considered human food but I make sure that it is really good quality. For them I make sure that I remove all unhealthy fat. I give my dog a few nuts (unsalted), beans, apple, avocado (very little) and other veggies and fruit that are good for her and that she enjoys. I also boil lean beef, lean chicken and some chicken livers for the dog and cats.
