just today i smashed my passenger side outside mirror, I live in Michigan. I'm wondering if I can get a ticket for not having one. I plan on fixing it, just not right away.

I've read the answers here, so far, and I concur that it appears two of the three mirrors are required. But let me ask you a question...Were you frequently using your passenger side outside mirror when driving? If you were, you may feel "lost" without it. I have all three mirrors, and I discovered how accustomed I was to them when my inside rearview mirror fell off the window (aged and excessive heat inside vehicle -- Texas heat can be brutal!). I was so nervous and agitated that I was unable to go to work. I had to immediately take it for repair. It was like I had "gone blind" because I could not see behind me!!

You will need to have the Drivers out-side mirror
and the inside rear view mirror
As long as you have the inside rear view mirror you do not need a passenger out-side mirror

NO, assuming this is a passenger car you are required to have 2 mirrors...a driver's side and either a rearview or a passenger side mirror.

I know that some older cars didn't come with a passenger side mirror so I don't know how they can legally control that.

Depends on the state law, in Washington state you need to have two of the three mirrors.

Passenger side, normally not. Unless your license requires one.

It is not illegal but honestly more dangerous for you. It's like your car just lost its right eye. And you lose your blind spot altogether. I think you should go get it fix right away.
