I'm not sure what kind of answer you are really looking for, I may be reading your question wrong. But if you are wondering how to make children feel that they are welcome in, say your home, you can just try and treat them respectfully. Don't make them feel like you are constantly watching their every move, as if you didn't trust them. Allow them to interact with the adults, and keep conversations around children intelligent yet simple. Don't talk about complicated issues, such as politics or the stock market. This doesn't necessarily mean that you have to talk about Sesame Street or Barney either though. Jump on the opportunity to have children in you life and in your home and engage in fun, easy conversation that they can engage in. It could be fun to get a child's point of view on some things. Let them know that you enjoy their company and appreciate them being your welcomed guest.

On the childs first day take their picture and place it on their cubby so they know they have a "special" place in the classroom. Also, make sure to single out one child every week as the "star of the week". They can have their mom, dad or caregiver come in and read the class on of their favorite stories. Bring in their favorite snack to share. Tell the class about them themselves by bringing in baby pictures, a favorite toy, drawing a picture of a special time in their, anything they feel that makes them special. You can give the child a crown to wear all week. I think you can probably come up with some more ideas from here. But I hope this was a good jumping off spot for you!

I always treat each child with the respect that is derserved to (almost) every human being. Just because they are young, does not mean that they have no thoughts, opinions or feelings!

Get down to their level physically (mentally I'm already there!) That way you are not so intimidating and they can read your facial expressions better. NEVER talk down to children - they pick up on it and will probably use it against you!

Always remember that a child has its own space and most likely they will shun you until they feel you have earned THEIR respect!!!!

Body language and tone of voice. A friendly face is welcoming for anyone. Using a high tone in your voice.
Most importantly get down to the childs level. Towering above them would be intimidating to them. Get down and make eye contact and offfer a cuddle or your lap to sit on.

Be warm and friendly. Children love kindness and a smile always breaks the ice.

They like to see you get excited when you see them. A big smile shows you are welcoming them and a hug shows them they are loved.

By actually welcoming them using their name introducing them to everyone else having child friendly furniture and activities showing genuine interest in them in what they say and do including them in things i.e. what you do eg shopping housework cooking let them help and they will gain a sense of belonging include them in family/group activities and let them know you are glad they are there " thank you for helping us to do that " or " we had extra fun because you were there too".
Does that help?

A big smile and a hug. And faking wouldn't work -- they can always tell who's genuine!

Be warm and inviting. Offer them choices that they can make freely upon arrival.
