Methadone is an amazing pain reliever! It comes in Pill form and Liquid Form. Of course it should only be used as a last resort, and under the advice of your doctor. My husband has CRPS and his doctor has recommended it. It's not all the hype people make it out to be IF USING IT IN CONJUNCTION WITH YOUR PAIN PROGRAM. please talk to your doctor.

Methadone is indeed a very effective NARCOTIC pain medicine, with a long action and low cost, approximately 1/6 that of Demerol. It's a Schedule II narcotic in the US, and is also used to treat heroin addiction.
As a narcotic it is addictive in itself, but for serious pain that is usually not considered a contraindication. Very few patients using narcotic analgesics for severe pain ever become addicted to their medications, and those that do usually are able to detox fairly quickly and effectively.
Interesting note is that in Great Britain heroin is used as well as an effective narcotic pain killer, rather than being withheld from the population which needs it. The US has effectively demonized many, many drugs which have valid, though limited medical uses, completely restricting their use in any capacity including medical research. So much for the "war on drugs".
Pequen is a complete fool. One tablet won't kill a person! It's a PAINKILLER, not a poison, though it can poison if overused.

try to stay away from methadone if you can. my daughter was prescribed that and was up to 9 per day. she is now in a detox center. highly addictive and more problems added to current ones. remember they use methadone to detox herion users. i have seen the withdrawels and that is awful.

Very funny. Maybe Tylenol would work better. I'm just guessing, but I don't think grocery stores carry Methadone.

It is very addictive, hubby took it for more than a year for chronic pain and he went thru hell to get off of it.Dr. wanted him to go to rehab but he was determined not to.I would agree with the others who say only as a last resort!!

It's addictive. It's probably not the best choice to take that as a pain reliever.
