This is a good question!
Yes, adam was perfect, UNTIL he ate the fruit from the tree that God had told them not to eat from.
Up until that point, the garden of eden was a perfect place. Once adam ate the fruit they both INSTANTLY knew they were naked and hid from God. That's when sin entered the world and they were no longer perfect.

Adam was not perfect. We can obviously see this from the bible. Eve was decieved by the snake and Adam was tempted by Eve. They had not known sin before this and had enjoyed daily fellowship with God. The moment that they sinned they realized it and that is why they tried to hide.

He was perfect until the time he sinned. God man Adam perfect but with the right to have a free will and choose. You cannot truly love unless you are free to love... to choose to love. God wanted man to choose to love Him. He failed, and chose to love himself. The moment he failed, he became a sinner. That tendency and nature was then passed on to every succeeding generation. Only Christ, who came from a different bloodline... Father God's, was free from sin. That's what made Him the perfect sacrifice for our sin to free us from the grip of that genetic trait.

Everything was perfect before the fall of man (Adam and Eve's) sin.
He sinned because God gave him (Adam) free will. He (Adam) chose to follow Eve into sin.

Adam was perfect.
Adam consciously chose a course in opposition to God.
This made him imperfect since he was made to cooperate with God.
Why did he do that?
He had a choice between going his way with Eve, or loyalty to God.
He chose. Its called free will.
The Bible says even many of the angels chose disloyalty to God for immediate gratification.

No, he wasn't.
If he wasn't free to disobey God, he wouldn't be free to obey him either.
We all would have done the same thing, sooner or later. Given the choice to obey or disobey God, all of us who ever lived, are living, or will live will eventually come, one day, to the same conclusion: Disobeying God is a good idea.
We are not suffering as a result of Adam's sin. We are suffering as the result of our own.
The only thing important to know--as to who is responsible for our not being perfect--is that we aren't God.
