That they know what they are doing................

There are many misconceptions people have about psychiatrists and psychiatry and other medical fields. One of the biggest one is that people tend to think that their doctors have all the solutions to their problems. Despite popular belief doctors are not God. They know of many different treatments and medications that may help a person, but not one treatment or medication can help everybody the same. No two bodies are the same and what type of drug may work for me may not work for you.

We live in a fast paced society of fast food restaurants and fast service at gas stations and what not. We often think that our health care should also be fast. We think that there should be a short cut to traditional medicines and rather than taking the time and effort in finding out what is the best for our bodies and minds, we tend to look at other alternative medications or procedures. This may be fruitful for some but just like medications and other treatments, just because something worked for your neighbor doesn't mean it will work for you and so on.

There are many advances in the world of medicine and things are much better now than they've been several decades ago. Yet although medical science has come a long way, there still needs more room for improvement.

Good luck to you and I hope I was some what helpful.

Some people tend think that psychiatrists sit down and do therapy with clients. You know the whole couch and ink blot thing. When in fact a psychiatrist's primary job is to analyze and collect data so that they will know what medications to prescribe you. It is the job of a psychologist to be your therapist.

They in India are just to make money and prescribe some pills which induces sleep.
They do not diagnose the patient properly.
Some time back I was forced to consult a psychiatrist.
When I met him his question asked first was " Why do you want to see me"
He did not ask my age.my medical reports,my present job or my problems with my health conditions.
Pl tell me if he is correct..
They say that a psychiatrist asks questions for money which your wife will ask for free.

that all they want is your money. i have a psychiatrist that barely charges anything for certain people. he may not be the smartes guy when it comes to common sense things, but he is pretty good at his profession.

They are afraid that if they have to see anyone in that field, that must mean they are crazy.

It's not true. I think everyone in the world could use a little therapy now and again. LOL

a lot of people (i was one of them) think that in order to see a psychiatrist, you have to be 'crazy'. but that's not true.

another one is that they're only after your money.....(not sure if that is true or not..)
