i was sitting on the bus today and this lady walked in and oh my lord, there was a huge, invisible cloud of odor...(of cigarettes) as she passed she left her trail real real real strong. im not a smoker at all, so i was personally disgusted just having to smell it for the next half hour even after the lady was sitting all the way in the back. she wasnt smoking, but obviously just had before going in, so i wondered....

for those who are heavy smokers, or even regular smokers, do you enjoy that smell when your sitting at a public area and someone with that smell walks by you? i mean, does it bother you? do you like it? do you hate it even though you might smell the same way at some moments?

for me, im kinda use to smelling smoke in public areas since its not that long ago that in italy they set the laws, but what i hate is the smell of a person passing by who has ALREADY smoked. i prefer smelling them while they are smoking, than smelling their odor they leave after, thats what grosses me out that most...

I quit smoking three years ago and was disgusted when I started to be able to pick smokers out in a crowd as they walked by. While I was smoking, I never noticed it.

I smoke and have for quite some time - as a smoker, you can't smell it yourself unless you go for some time (and a mean a couple of days) without smoking. The smell is unpleasant, I agree, however - it is not the intention of smokers to do so just to irritate people around us...

It is an addiction, and there are many that are trying to quit for health reasons. I don't think that any are trying to quit because people say they can smell the odor...

I don't think there should be a ban on cigarettes because it is a choice of the individual person - they lady you speak of possibly was wearing clothes that she hadn't washed which caused the spell to be so strong - I would prefer that to the smell of her body odor due to not washing the clothes.

Incidentally - I hate the smell of marijuana when I go to a concert, or the smell of alcohol on a person leaving a bar or even the smell of muscle cream on an older person - but I don't ask them if they know how bad they smell or if they can even tell

I was a smoke for 17 years. Quit over a year ago.

Here is the thing, as a smoker, you don't really smell it as much as a non-smoker. It gets into your pores, your nose does not detect smells as much as a non-smoker and for your taste buds, well, In my case, I've noticed that I tasted food a lot more then b4.

I can tell you though, that now, I can smell the smokers from a mile away and can't believe that I use to smell like that. When I go to a restaurant with my friends, because all restaurents in my area are non-smokers, when my friends go out for a smoke, man, they stink.

Even if they wear perfume, it still smells.

Does it bother me? No, not really. Do I like the smell? No I don't.

What bothers me is when I am around smokers in a closed room, I end up smelling like an ashtray.....Other then that, to each its own.

Heavy smokers have no idea what this smell even is. I used to be a smoker and quit and now whenever my husband smokes I can smell it. When I was a smoker I didn't believe my mom when she asked me how I could stand the smell. I couldn't smell it at all. Now I know what she means. It's awful. It smells like burning cat pee. My in-laws have 4 heavy smokers in their house and the house constantly stinks. They don't smoke in the house when I bring my daughter over but we all go home smelling like smoke. It's awful. The government should be trying to find a way to ban cigarettes without hurting the economy.

Ya see I have been a smoker for 7 years and If I am not smoking and I smell someone like in your question it does stink and it does disgust me I know it is a bad habit and it sounds hypocritical but If I am not smoking at the time I don't like the smell, I wash my hands after cigarettes because I don't like to smell like it.

I smoke and I can smell others who have just finished smoking and it's not always a pleasant scent I grant you, but like someone else said, it could be worse, they could have the smoke smell with B.O underneath with a fart or two as well. I personally get disgusted when someone one walks by me who has doused themselves in some kind of fragrance. To each is own is what I try to live by.

I'm a social/ smoke when I drink, smoker. Yes, I do understand what you are saying. As a smoker, I do not smell it on myself, BUT if I haven't had one in a while and someone who just put one out and jumps on the elevator with me.......it completely disgusted me! It's like they bathed in an ashtray. So yes, I agree. It an extremely nasty habit and unattractive as well. I wish I'd never picked one up. :(

Those who regular smoker of cigarettes are often not bothered by the smell of cigarettes. But if they do not use beedies etc. for smoking and use only filttered cigarettes , they can also bothered by the smell of heavy smokers who use beedies/unfilttered cigarettes a lot.

People that smoke ever day usually don't smell cigarette smoke on other people. There are times that people smoke a really generic brand of cigarette and they really reek. But smokers generally damage their sense of taste and smell so bad that it doesn't bother them.
