I'm looking for some new things to try this year, and holiday meals are just more fun when there's a story behind each dish. In return, feel free to try out one of my family heirloom recipes:

___SAUCY BEANS___
2 cans green beans (1 drained, 1 not)
2 half-inch thick slices of onion, diced up
2 pieces of thick-cut bacon, raw, cut into squares
2 small cans of tomato sauce

If you have a Crock-Pot, that's perfect - just dump everything into the Crock-Pot, turn it to low, and let it cook away. Otherwise, you can put it all into a covered saucepan and cook over low heat for a few hours.

My mom gave me this recipe after I moved to Texas, and said that both she and her brother have tried making changes to the recipe and have always been disappointed - the original is still the best.

Bon Appetit!

stuffing is a must!

I found this recipe:

1 lb. cubed white bread. (tear it apart the night before you cook it and leave it out on cookie sheets so it gets hard)
1/2 - 1 stick butter (melted)
1 lb. pork sausage (cook it like it's hamburger meat so it's crumbley when cooked)
2-4 cups diced green apples (however much you like. I use 2 cups)
1/2 cup dried cranberries, shopped as fine as you like.
2 cups chopped onion
1 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup minced fresh parsley
1 tbsp. minced fresh sage
1 tbsp minced fresh thyme
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp cloves
1 cup chicken stock
1-2 eggs, beaten (depending on the size.

Put bread in a very large mixing bowl or roasting pan. Add cooked sausage, and all other "dry" ingrediants (onions, apples, cranberries, celery, herbs and spices etc.) Mix well with hands. Drizzle butter over the top and add egg(s), and mix again. Add chicken stock gradually until stuffing is moist enough that you can form it into a loose ball and it will stick together. (mixing the whole time) Stuff bird and cook as usual! Cook any leftover stuffing in a bowl the last little while that the bird cooks.

cornbread dressing.
1 whole chicken
1 onion chopped
3 stalks of celery chopped
4 cloves of garlic minced
2 chicken bouillon cubes
seasonings.
corn bread mix

I bake the cornbread as the box suggests then I let it cool.
In large pot I boil the chicken, vegetables, bouillon cubes and seasonings till I can debone the chicken. (you can use boneless chicken breast). I add the chicken back in the stock. In large pan I crumble the cornbread then add the chicken with the stock. You mix it in till the combination is real moist. Then bake at 350 degrees for about one hour. Its not Thanksgiving without one.
I do like the saucy beans recipe and will give it a try.

Besides turkey, etc. my sister makes 'pork pie' which is sausage, potatoes and I don't even know. Something French. But it has also become a tradition.

Over the years we have added green bean casserole, but maybe this year we should try yours! Thanks for the recipe! Happy Fall, Ya'll!

butternut squash
I poke hole in it and put the hole thing in the microwave for 30 min.
I check it to make sure it is soft. Then, cut in half and scoop squash into a bowl. Add one stick of butter and brown sugar and mash.
I loved this dish when my mom made it.

Both are good for you, each fruit/vegetable has different vitamins. And so as more variety, as better. Vegetables have generally less sugar than fruits.
