we decided to have a kitten and a puppy together ( I know it will be hard). Vet said if we both have them when they are very young no problem will be. Is there anyone having both? which breeds are more suitable for this?

As the other answers indicated, most dogs will accept a cat and vice versa, if introduced at a young age. Here is a tip to ease the transition.

Let's say you get a puppy first. Put a towel in the spot where the puppy sleeps. Let the puppy sleep on the towel so that its scent is on the towel. When you get the kitten, put the towel in the kennel you use to bring the kitten home. The kitten will be used to the scent of the puppy, before they meet the puppy. Same thing in reverse, if you get the kitten first.

Have fun with your new family members. Remember to take LOTS of pictures. They grow up so fast, you will be happy you captured them at their most adorable stages.

There is no magical answer to which breed. I have 3 cats and 3 dogs. One of the cats just flat out hates all the other animals. People always say German Shepherds hate cats. Nope. I have one and he plays with the cats and even sleeps with them. The best thing to do is find the pets you want and introduce them correctly. Normally I get them the same time so there isn't the territorial issues. Don't worry if the playing seems to get out of hand and it looks like the cat is loosing. Kitty can take care of itself and it teaches puppy it is playing to rough.

I have a 13 yr old cat, a 2 yr old jack russell, and a 1 year old boxer. My only advice to you is not to get a jack russell or any other terriers that were bred for hunting small animals. I have more than once caught my jack with a piece of my cat in her mouth and my cat is no weakling either. It's just in her nature to hunt smaller animals. My jack now has a healthy fear of the cats claws and my screaming so she doesn't bother anymore. But this is because my cat is old and wise about how to handle herself. If you have a kitten, the kitten will mistake the hunting behavior as play and the jack will let it get out of control.

My boxer, on-the-other-hand, adores my cat. She even shares her bed with my cat and attempts to play with her, although it's more like trample her.

almost any breedof cat and dog, if loved and trained well will be best friends if together froma very young age, but make sure that there is a place where they can go to get out of the way if they need to.
we didn't leave ours alone together alone for at least the first 18 months, but when they start to mature they settle into routine much the same a children.

Any puppy and any kitten will be fine with each other as long as you introduce them at an early age. I had a cat then got a Dal pup. They got along famously.

That is a HUGH question. For one thing it depends on the breed of dog and cat. Most breeds do get along when raised from pups and kittens, at least that has been my opinion.

I have both, my cats were however a year old when I got my puppy but, the puppy didnt know to "attack the cats" and they get along great. He is a lab/hound. But really I think if you have a friendly puppy and while he is a baby he wont know to "go after" the cats. Mine get along great. It did take a little for the cats to get used to him though.

Labs are tolerant of almost anything. I had mine as a puppy with a kitten. They are so funny together. Enjoy!
