It depends on a lot of things. Do you want a quiet dog? Then I would say Chihuahua...they are usually timid quiet dogs that are good pets. If you want more a companion you can play with a take for walks then Pugs are great. Just remember to get one from a breeder. Often the dogs cost less and they are healthier. Besides, most good breeders can help you decide which puppy in the litter is best for your wants and needs.

If you go with a pet store puppy when I cannot help you. Pet store puppies, expecially small breed ones are usually neurotic and psychologically damaged by being in a cage. This would make them NOT the breed standard in personality so I cant help you. If you are going to a pet store you might as well close your eyes and point....because nobody can tell you what a pet store puppy will act like.

Take this little quiz to give you a better idea of what you're looking for in a dog..http://www2.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm.Then please research the breeds you are interested in thoroughly! The more you know about your dog, the better care you can give him/her. Then if you really are sure about the dog you want, go here and see all the homeless puppies near you!http://www.petfinder.com/. I am partial to Yorkies, having had my little girl for almost 15 yrs, until I lost her just a couple months ago. She was the sweetest, most personable little dog. But, be warned, these little dogs tend to act like babies and are very needy. Beyond that, they will become your constant companion.

A chihuahua is the best dog ever. If you get it for your first dog, you will never want another breed. They are put on this earth to make their owners happy, to love unconditionally, be by your side at all times. Cheer you up when you are sad.
