US that want nothing more in life than to be adopted into a loving family? I just don't get it. I think it's "oh look at me, I'm such a wonderful person"...I think it's more about the celebs and the publicity and them wanting to feel good about themselves than it is about the child. Thoughts?

I think individual reasoning is individual, so I can't vouch for any of the stars.

From personal experience however, International adoption can be cheaper and less risky than domestic adoption.

Here are some comparisons:

In an International adoption, you can normally select the sex of the child. In domestic cases, you are usually paired with a pregnant mother, before sex is determined.

In a domestic adoption, you are paired with a birth mother, you pay expenses (sometime including rent and groceries) that may amount to $20,000 or more. If the birth mother decides at the birth that she is unwilling, she is not legally obligated to return the money or pay back the adoptive parents. International adoption does not have the same risk.

Too many domestic cases of children being with adopted parents for 2 years or more, then returned by the courts to the birth parents. (Just living with this fear is enough to turn people to International adoption)

Also, the 'millions of kids' in the U.S. waiting to be adopted are generally not infants, which is what most prospective adoptive parents desire. Many parents aren't willing to risk any current children or future children they may have being at the hands of a pathologically damaged child. (There are frequent claims that state adoption agencies hide potentially problematic issues from birth parents (history of molestation, violence, etc).

These are just a few items. You might want to visit some adoption forums at a site like adoption.com for more discussion.

Children adopted in the US will always have the opportunites this great country allows.

To adopt a child from a third world country is to remove that child from starvation, unsanitary living conditions, economic suppression and terrible medical inadequacy.

It can also help to break the chain of death and poverty. If this adopted child chooses to return to his country of origin and become a positive force because he has had an education and exposure to sanitation and adequate medical care, then he/she can become a positive influence on the lives of people who would otherwise live in desperation and then die.

Well, in some of the African countries, if a child is not adopted out of there, he will die. Children are abused and they are thrown away in those countries. They often starve to death. At least in this country, most children who aren't adopted are fed and clothed. Maybe the stars feel they are saving a child's life by adopting him.

I wanted to ask this question as well. however my best guess is the rules are easier outside the USA. I could adopt from China in less than 1/2 the time with less money.... I am sorry about your situation.
