Many of the countries where children starve are countries where the people allowed some tyrant to slowly take command and then rule as viciously as possible.
It is easy to sit still and watch some goon who is setting up conditions so that he can take your country away from you. It takes people with guts to stand up to such a person and say,"That's Enough!"
Sure, some people might get killed but the "disease" has to be nipped in the bud otherwise it will kill you.
North Korea, Cuba, 1930's-Germany, 1919-Russia, etc were all countries where the people had a chance, in the beginning, to stop a tyrant. Instead they took the easy way out and waited for some one else to step forward.
Tyrants need a strong military force to help then stay in power. To get that strong force they need money. Most get that money by taking it away from their people and when they do, the children starve.
There is nothing new about this technique for gaining control of a country. It has happened again and again before, and it will happen again and again today and in the future. We should know the method and we should know the solution: will we have the guts when it happens to us?

If all the rich people gave all their money away to all the poor people in the world, every poor person would receive around $100 to $200 which would help them for a few months at most depending on the country. In the mean time all the economies would crash because nobody would have any money left to invest. Most people would lose their employment. In the case of another Tsunami for instance nobody would have any money to help be it individuals or Western governments because they would all be broke. This is simplifying of course but rich people invest and buy goods which create income for the less fortunate.

Simply put, the world will never be a perfect place. History tells us that. Its not even that way in the animal world and we,as humans are given that powerful freedom of being able to make a choice. Education will help alot, the more we give the better the world will be, but blaming those who have made good is not the answer either, the good and quality of richer countries work and toil should not be put down in their doing positive things because other countries drown themselves in war and hate and turmoil. Give unto Ceaser as they say-the spritual world overlaps but is not part of the physical, but I think the more we all HUMANS fight for that humanity and knowledge the smaller and better our world will become.

The real reason is that the iniate selfishness of man is especially manifest within his sphere of experience.
In common terms, if we don't interact with it, it doesn't exsist. Also if you are rich, smarter than average, or some other exception that allows you to feel elevated above other people, a natural sense of entitlement (as in I deserve this because...I went to school, I worked hard...).is easy to develope. If actually faced with a starving child many people would think they are being deceived (this is a scam by the kids parents to get easy money, all the kids in this country are con artists, etc..) in order to preserve the sence of entitlement and privilage.
These two primal forces combined allow the human animal to ignore empathy and instead spend thousands on a handbag.

sorry but what rich people do with their own money is up to them. If they choose to help others with it then great. but they are not required to do so, and should not be looked down on for not doing so.
the real question would be why do people in such hard hit areas of the world continue to keep having children that they know that they can't feed or care for. that is cruel to the child, the parent is condemning it to death be for it's birth or to a life of poverty. Maybe if they concentrated on bettering their lives be for having those children then the children would not go hungry.

One reason I believe is the money donated by people (rich and not so rich) did not reach the starving people of that country. Instead it could have been siphoned off by corrupted officials lining their own pockets with the donations.
I had stopped donating money especially for charitable causes overseas, not knowing where my money actually ended up.
So do not chatise the rich so quickly.

Reading some of the shocking answers people have given to your question appears to answer the question. The underlying text of many of their answers seems to be "it's not my problem. I can exploit the world's population to serve my materialistic needs but don't expect me to be responsible for their lives". Why do they die of hunger?..... because the rich want to dominate and value money and material wealth above humanity.

You have to place the blame on some of the governments in 3rd world countries. Food and supplies are shipped to various areas but their governments refuse to allow the delivery to various areas. You would be shocked at how much food sent just sits in warehouses just to rot away.

1st the premise of your question shows you have a socialist view of the world.
People around the world suffer under the hands of dictators and thugs and yet people such as yourself think we ought not take action to insure people have a voice in their lives.
The most ambitious people I've met are people that come to the US for the opportunities it can provide. Freedom provides opportunity to become wealth. Tyranny disallows it.
Fight tyranny, in favor of freedom. Guess what people's lives get better. Not by taking from one class of people via some government sponsored wealth re-distribution program. I am tired of seeing 30% of my wages going to some form of government to support bureaucracies I don't approve of.
