kk so a rooster is a male chicken and a hen is a female chicken... but which one lays the eggs we can eat and which one lays the eggs that hatch??

All eggs come from the female, or the hen. The ones you eat are ones that were never fertalized by a male (rooster), so if they had been left alone, or even incubated, they never would have hatched.

roosters do not lay eggs. hens lay both the eggs we eat and the ones that hatch. the eggs we eat are unfertilized and laid by hens who are not kept with roosters

Both are the hen. If you collect the eggs shortly after they are 'born', then you cook 'em. If you don't, the eggs will hatch.
