I have a small dog 16 pounds bishon maltese what foods are bad for her?

For one thing if you want your dog to stay healthy dont give your dog table food bad idea maybe once in a great while but its not very healthy for their digestive system especially sugar it makes the blood cells burst and thats not good. Always read the ingredients on the label of the dog food package when your at the market and make sure that the first ingredient is meat not corn or vegies i have a german-sheperd half akita female and i buy her beef and more at Costco its first ingredient is meat shes already 8yrs old healthiest dog ever says the vet !im saying this bc dog's are meet eaters not vegitarians make sensce?oh yeah and dont get cheap dog food.by the way i love bichons i want one so bad !!

I bet your pup is adorable! She is a small dog and requires a special diet.

Foods that are bad for her include people food. Premium dog kibbles have the ingredients that your dog needs to live a long, healthy life. They are balanced to provide her all of the nutrients that she requires, and people food does not offer that.

A kibble made especially for smaller breeds is a good option for her. Also, because little dogs have an especially hard time keeping their teeth clean, I recommend a veterinary prescription diet called Hill's t/d. I give the large nuggets to my maltese/yorkie mix as a treat. I'll include the link to their website:)

Feed a good premuim dog food. From the pet store, not the supermarket. Look at the ingredients, you want at least the first ingredient to be a meat(chicken,lamb) make sure it has NO Wheat ,Corn or Soy, no sugar, no animal digest. Wellness, California Naturals, Natural Choice are all good.

Lots of foods are bad for her....what do you mean? If you mean dry dog foods....well most grocery store brands are bad(AE. Dog Chow, Pedigree, Beneful ECT). Whomever said Pedigree is good does not know what they are talking about.

I recommend Eukanuba or Nutro as a good food. BTW 16 pounds is large for a bichon/maltese....is she overweight? If so switch her to a premium brand light dog food such as Eukanuba Small Breed Light or Nutro light ASAP. Obesity in small dogs is a major problem...it can significantly shorten their lifespan.

Also, look for food with meat as their first ingrediant. Only buy food with corn in it IF the corn is ground...or else your dog cannot digest it. Good luck.

Your dog should eat dogfood that is 100% nutritionally complete.Add canned dog food & biscuits.They can also eat rice with boiled boneless chicken,,liver or beef,,with cooked veggies.cool completely.
Do Not feed your dog:
spicy foods
sugary foods
nitrate,,such as balona or hotdogs
onions
raisins or grapes
chocolate
any type of bones (besides rawhides for dogs)
raw veggies
salt is bad for older dogs(there are saltless dogfoods)
fatty foods (chicken skins,,margarine etc)
bread turns to sugar
milk

Chocolate is the worst thing you can give a dog...my vet said it can cause a dog to have seizures.
