Very nice, you raise valid points, how ever...
Let's just talk about Christianity for now. Christianity has a profound effect in the United States. Since Christians are supposed to be the moral main-stay of the American Culture, it is sad to see so many of them, especially in leadership, are corrupted.
Religion is an organization of morals. It preaches morals. It expects others to follow their moral guidelines. Now, we all know what happens if you are a pedophile in the Christian church, you get "forgiven" and moved to another church where you can do it again. This is a leadership decision. This is a crime, in which five states of our great union, you get the death penalty for.
Since Christianity preaches the " Holy Ghost " will change you into a better person, and it's leadership is committing such horrific acts, then what does that say about the credability of this "Holy Ghost"?
A religion is open to scrutiny, just like any other organization. Especially in the US. And since the basis of this scrutiny is mainly it's own hypocrisy, you can expect a lot more.
Further more, what about these charities that 'religion' is doing? Save the children in Africa, Help fight typhoid in BFE. These are US churches going half way across the world, when there's plenty of people that need help right here! That tells me it's not about charity, it's about publicity.
As far as " people rejecting religion " consider this. If a minister of God, who I'm assuming read the bible at least once, can rape a little girl, be forgiven by the church, and be sent to do it again like it never happend, it doesn't lend much credibility to the Ten Commandments. Church is the moral staple of humanity and should hold their bar HIGHER than other organizations, not lower.
That is why people reject God. Because the learned ministers that get the most publicity reject God with their actions and the Church leadership rejects God with their responce.

When you do not actively fight the corruption, take a stand against it that is just as loud and vocal as those you call "corrupt", you are condoning their actions.
Those that do not accept the idea of God or Gods would have far more respect and compassion for someone who FIGHTS the corruption than they would for those who are little better than apologist whimpering "but we all aren't like that".
The only real change that can be made in religious organizations that preach hate and intolerance MUST come from within the organization, any attempt to change them from the outside makes them feel justified and only adds fire to their attacks.

You aren't listening to the atheists who post here.
For an athiest, belief in God would be the equivalent of you beiieving in Zeus. Ancient Greek religions are not considered mythology, yet adherents then believed as passionately in Zeus as we do in God.
People who corrupt with or through religion simply add that insult to the injury that athiests would view in the futility of religion.
Of course they reject the possibility of God altogether. However, there can be more respectful means of disagreeing than some do present.

I feel that religion keeps a person from reaching a higher level of moral development, because it teaches you to expect reward for doing the right thing.
The rules are very simple. You don't kill because you would not want anyone to kill you or your loved ones. The rules against lying, stealing, and cheating would use the same reasoning. We obey simply because they're right and not so we can go to "heaven" and not burn in Hell.We all know these rules from our own life experiences, and the teachings of others. We should do right for the right reasons, and not bargain w/ some god.

Its not the core message that I have a problem with (peace, love and forgivness) Its all the other stuff that goes along with it, like if a gay man or woman were to enter a christian church and announce that this was there sexual preference. Lets see how many of those supposed to be forgiving and peacfull people say..You bible sais that you should not judge..Yet many of you do..

I don't question religion, because I've already formed a belief that it is wrong. As an atheist, I only question atheism. Me questioning religion would be like you questioning the Easter Bunny.
As for mocking and insulting it, I mock it because jokes are funny and I insult it because people like you seem to need a push before you question your beliefs.

Your question was more or less The Answer. Great approach and very well put. All in all we come from One God. Give Him His Love, Honor, Glory and Respect and there shouldn't be any problems. Thanks for your time. Be Good. Peace.

you need to ask your religious leaders this question. Get them to stop trying to get their views turned into our laws. 'Secularising' them ain't gonna deceive us.
Focus your attentions on the real trouble makers.
You can thank everyone else and not your religous leaders for helping you be aware that your religous organisations are not divine.

It is my experience that people who vehemently attack religion are in reality very insecure over their own decision to live without religion. If they were so sure their decision was the correct one they wouldn't feel the need to attack those who hold opposing beliefs.
