Could you recommend a website or something where I can find free Spanish stories - something simple, maybe kiddies stories? I've done an online beginner's course and will keep moving through those, but they are so very restricted in terms of vocab. I'm really sick of saying 'I have 5 pesos, how many pesos do you have?' I don't have time for an evening class, and unfortunately I don't know any Spanish speakers who could help me learn/practise the language. Think reading might be my best shot. I'd appreciate any advice/ideas/recommendations. Gracias :-)

I know of a great story in Spanish: Los Dos Reyes y Los Dos Laberintos, by Jorge Luis Borges.
It means The Two Kings and the Two Labyrinths. Great read for people of all ages!
Buena Suerte!

I dont really know about any site with kids stories..... anyways, there is a magazine I like very much, is like the National Geographic but for MEXICO and they have a lot of articles about traditions, legends, stuff that is really interesting. You can check and see if you find something you like... If not at least you can enjoy some of the pictures.

Hi there, why don't you join a Yahoo Group? I recommend this one:
SPANISH-ENGLISH INTERCHANGE
The purpose of this group is to establish and maintain contacts between native Spanish speakers who want to learn or improve their English and native English speakers who want to learn or improve their Spanish. The help is reciprocal. The group is meant for all levels, from beginners to language experts.

Borges (Laberintos) is pretty intense for a beginner; it's written in symbolic language and has metaphysical themes.
But it's great to read in translation if you like to read interesting things.
