is it just my city or dose petco look run down compared to a petsmart.
and have less care taken of it

It depends on the store. I have two petco's in my area. One is super clean, just like petsmart. The other petco leaves a lot to be desired.
I use all three stores - depends on the price of product I'm after and sales going on. All rotate lots of food, and freshness is important.
When/if buying animals - look for signs of health first.
I have a super vet -tech that works at my run down petco - his knowledge of animals and care is outstanding - If the store is reputable - there going to tell you the pros and cons of the animals health.
Repeat service is a key factor.
My advise - take advantage of both, follow your heart when purchasing something for your animal or when thinking of getting a new one.

It's where you live. I have both a Petsmart and Petco, and the Petco is much, much nicer. I love the Treat Bar, but some of the other items can be found cheaper at Petsmart. I shop at both because Petco carries Solid Gold Dog food and my Petsmart doesn't.

I guess it depends a lot on the area and the store management. Where I am its the other way around. Petco is much nicer and cleaner than petsmart and the animals are cared for better.

We don't have a petco so I am not familiar with it, but I know the petsmart here is very clean. It may just be the management tho of the petco you go to,

It is also a lot more expensive! I refuse to take my puppy to Petco. The employee's and management at my local store are also rude and uneducated. I would take Petsmart over Petco any day!!!

The Petco when I lived in Seattle was dirty. I think Petsmart is better.

I live in the Quad Cities also, I go to PetSmart just off of 53rd. I like it there, very clean!

i agree w/ amy all though petsmart & petco sell main stream cheap products. i searched and found a web site that sells all natural dental treats for your dog. i have been using there product for almost a year now and my dogs teeth look & smell amazing. this is the best money i ever spent on my dog. check out companion dental health.

i LOVE the petco that we have in my town it is soooo much better than our petsmart they have so many more varieties of food and animals they are just overall a better store in raleigh anyways
