My 5 month is having an EEG in the next week to 2 weeks due to shaking and unprovoked crying. All I know is they will put probes on her head, but what all happens and how long will it take?

its simple. They will give him a mild sedative and put small monitors on his head, which are hooked up to a computer and will read the electrical and nerve impulses in his head. It takes about an hour after he is sedated, and another hour or so after tht to get him fully awake. He will be fine! good luck

there's no direct answer: The EEG will record electrical activity in the brain. There won't be any reason to break the skin, and shouldn't effect the infant at all. Basically, it's no different than a doctor, asking you to open your mouth and say, "ahhh". As a side note, to make sure the test is done properly, make the infant stays away from anything that may effect hormonal activity (sugar, medication, etc.) And also, stay away from oily shampoos or head creams.

This is a non invasive test. They stick some pads on the patient and watch the monitor. It prints out a report. No big deal. Takes about 30 minutes
Hoping for the best for your child.
