Yes, this custom is intended to show respect for Jesus. That is why. I am not judging but seriously want to know if others do this too.

Please be respectful and do not take this as an open invitation to disrespect my faith as I am not disrespecting yours.

No, but when I get to Heaven I will. I think, after reading and studying for many years, to put it simply, you should bow your head when He is in your presence.

No; the way I see it, things done out of custom or rote habit lose their personal significance. Look at prayer... My best friend growing up was Catholic, and when they prayed, it was merely a recitation of words... it didn't seem heartfelt, but merely "something that had to be done". My family on my mother's side, though, their prayers were individual, personal, but still saying the very same thing my best friend's family said : the Lord's Prayer.

We are made in God's image... and I don't know about most people, but when I get mail from Senators in response to my petitions, I would rather have a personal, handwritten letter written to me, than an automated response... when I get correspondence from my family, I'd rather have an account of what's going on in their lives, than a greeting card with a "Love So-and-So" signed on the bottom.

I can only assume the same of God, based on this verse : "But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking." - Matthew 6:7

To some, they embrace doing things customarily. It is their choice. Me, I prefer to do things that are personally significant. To some, doing things, such as bowing their head at the mention of Jesus' name, by custom helps them, and that's cool. But I personally prefer to be upon my knee upon His return, and to honor His name by representing it well during my lifetime.

...and as far as worship goes, I pray with head bowed, prostrate upon the floor, standing up, kneeling, with guitar (or other instrument) in hand, with computer keyboard in hand, with a cappela song, with head in the toilet, hanging half off the bed upside down, lying on the weight bench, and every other position imaginable. I pray and worship whenever I feel the need or want to.

Yes I try to remember to bow my head at the name of Jesus. Actually scripture tells us that "at the name of Jesus every knee shall bend". That might not always be practical. I believing that bowing our heads shows the same level of respect.

Yes the Catholic church does teach this protocol but I hope that there are at least some other Christians you try to show some sign of reverence at the name of Jesus.

Actually, no one ever called Jesus by the name 'Jesus', which is a Greek name. Our Messiah's name was actual Yeshua (like Joshua).

However, no matter what name we call Him, the idea of being respectful is good. I don't bow my head for it, however. Inside my heart leaps for joy each time I think on it, however or hear it being said. And when it's being used disrespectfully, I am saddened.

When I think on the cross, His sacrifice is forefront in my mind, but I do not make the sign of the cross. Personal decision. For me, it's like doing what Jesus suggested when it comes to prayer, to do it in private so no one knows. I don't want others to think me very holy or highly religious as if I had attained something out of my own effort. So, I intentionally refrain from worship with my body in public. What I do in private is between Him and I.

Debra M,
It depends. I guess I do sometimes. Other times I look up, especially if I am outside and praying. If I am feeling especially repentantant I do look down, but I do not have to pray with my eyes closed. I prefer them open.

I think that has something to do with readiness, a state of mind that I am in that gets me ready to do the Lord's bidding. As if the command from heaven will reach me at that moment, I want to be ready to move on it.

In the Bible it say at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. So if your already saved and you have excepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ you don't have to bow every time you say his name. That not gonna get you into heaven. I say him say a million times a day and I don't do that.

I don't always bow my head when I hear the name. I try to concentrate on living my life by His teachings and priciples which to me is the BEST way to show respect for Him.

If you do this to honor our Lord, the Lord will reward you. I have never heard of this custom. I think I would get a sore neck after a while. LOL
God Bless.
