Unfortunately there is no sure method to successfully uninstall a OS, although all version of windows keep uninstall information. Currently the practical way is to Upgrade to a newer OS. Or to format the hard disk and reinstall the OS from the installation cd.

The only way to uninstall a OS is to install a new OS. It will overwrite your current OS on your PC/Laptop. Remember, this will also delete any personal files on your C drive. It will actually format your C drive during the installation.

Are you asking how to install linux over windows or upgrade to a new version of windows or repair the current version on your machine?

Essentially to upgrade windows you would place the upgrade windows disc in (the setup) and reboot and follow the prompts

To repair windows you should have made a backup disk(s) or in most cases with a laptop and XP there is a backup partition
I suggest you call support for you vendor if the machine is less than 1 year old thay should help you provided the warranty is 1 year

To install linux over windows or as a separate partition dual bootable would require additional information about your machine and your capabilities
