Send in the Marines, the Army, the Navy and the National Guard! Help needed!!!!

But guess what? If Americans could just use proper grammar, it would be a great step forward! Speaking a language proper-ly (get it?) is not necessarily an indication of poor pronunciation. Grammar is the main culprit. Pronunciation and slang are more geographically associated, and somewhat "worldwide accepted".

But not being able to recognize when to use "it's" vs. "its", or "they're" vs. "there" are a few examples of unacceptable grammar faults. Even English teachers screw them up! Even MS Word Spell Checker screws them up!!!! 99% of Americans screw them up. Ah, what about the British? They also screw them up, perhaps in a lesser degree. So British vs. Americans is not a solution. If English speaking people in general could just apply the correct grammatical rules, and utilize a higher percentage of the available vocabulary (instead of using the same 200 words over and over again), it would be a positive step towards a linguistic improvement.

Besides, unless you had the occasion to meet God before, who tells you that he/she sees in colors (or colours)? He/she may just as well see in black-and-white!

Color or colour; analyse or analyze (and so on)....it really doesn't make a difference. Thay are all correct.

And the tomato issue? Well, the British started to call them "tomatoes" after their discovery in America, as tomatoes did not exist in Europe before then. But the true original pronunciation of tomato is actually "ojijitka" from the Lakota native American-Indian language.

Silly lectures aside, I am not American nor British, but I can tell you that in most languages there is a decline in the proper use of grammar. It is a sign of relaxation, laziness, easiness, and a lesser attachment to the roots of a specific language itself. And this process will continue to slowly modify and loosen the original linguistic characteristics. That's part of progress!!!!!

A campaign to enforce the erudite Shakespeare-style linguistic notions? "Yo, what's up my man? Whatcha talkin' about? I don't know nothin', and don't wanna know nothin'. What's a matter with you?"

You should work on your English first. Secondly, your troops are currently mired in other conflicts around the world and your prez doesn't have any more troops for your childish campaign. Now, take a Basic English course and come back later after you pass it with at least a C+.

Well I don't know about Wisconsin, but in our school district when I was in high school they wouldn't let us speak any other language in the classrooms only outside of class, unless it was the class subject. But still, the "bad behavior" was just an excuse, and they shouldn't have done that, after all, doesn't freedom of speech mean anything to them? No matter what language is spoken, English, Spanish, or any Native American languages.

Considering America broke off from Britain several hundred years ago, it would be ludicrous to think that our languages would stay the same. Even within the US, there are variations on the language (not everyone pronounces water with a "d" sound, for instance).

Just deal with it. You can't turn us back into Brits...we won the war for independence and we're Americans.

I am italian and I love the american accent and the way americans pronounce words, their sound... You can't make all the world speak with the british standard rules! Variety makes the world a better place.

Jolly good idea old bean!

if there is a 't' in the middle of a word it is still pronounced as a 't' not a 'd'.
water comes out of a tap not a faucet
lifts are used to go up floors in buildings, not elevators
not that many words end in 'ize'

and many many more.

The STANDARD here you mentioned is cloud-bulit, once ape sighs "uhuuuu a gaa tu"as the first language, we human being should follow and let it be forever?

Just because English originated in England, you have the right to determine how Americans speak?
Look at the numbers: US 300 million against UK 60 million.
Need I say more?

Since Americans saved your white British behind in World War II, we get to speak our language however we want. And you can speak your bloody language however you want, you arrogant British snob.
