That is ridiculous to have spaces just because you have kids!!!! So, I'm assuming you mean a pregnant person. A women carrying a child can still walk (for the majority of time) and if she can't, maybe she shouldn't be out driving by herself to begin with. If she isn't she can get dropped off in front of the store while her friend finds a parking space. With disabled persons that can be very difficult, especially if you have more than one in the vehicle.

because of some law, there has to be a certain number of disabled parking spaces for every other normal parking space

I think the law is.... for every 40 normal spaces there has to be one disabled space, so a supermarket with 400 spaces by law has to have 10 disabled spaces - the bigger the car park the more disabled spaces you will find.

there is no law for parent and child parking - thats just somthing the supermarkets have done to help people having to fight with prams and kids

At my supermarket the disabled spaces are always full up, so there is a need for them. Surely an able bodied parent would see that the disable have a greater need to be nearer the store.

Because disabled people have either difficulty in walking or are in a wheel chair, even people with cancer who are so bloated with steroids have problems walking a short distance, parent/child spaces aren't necessary, if a mother is too damn idle to walk a few extra paces with her little darling tuff, at least they can both walk, how do you think mothers coped before they could drive, they got on buses with a pram, kids and tons of shopping bags, no parent/child spaces for those ones, no wonder kids are lazy today.

Because the law mandates so many handicapped spaces per parking lot. The same as Apt. Complexes have to have so many per residents. There is no law, except kindness that parents w/ children will have a parking space. Harder to "police", Where do we draw the line?

Because they are mandated by law (Americans With Disabilities Act) but there are no laws mandating parent with child spaces. Those are there simply because the owner of the parking lot cares about parents (particularly mothers) with small children.

Why should parent/child spaces exist in the first place? Just because one has children doesn't mean one is in the same category as disabled and therefore deserving of preferential treatment.

Parents with children should walk to shops, the same as they have always done!

Your grocery store has parent/child parking spots? Wow--that's a great idea. :) The only place I've seen something remotely similar is Babies R Us. They have new/expectant mom parking, and only one space!

What's really annoying is that I notice one of two things in the handicapped spaces: A) they're ALWAYS empty; or B) the people who park there don't appear disabled in any way. They get out and practically run into the store. I've yet to see anyone park in a handicapped space and get out in a wheel chair, crutches, limping, etc. It's annoying and unfair.

I've never even seen a parent/child space! Disabled people certainly have more need of the spaces.

Why on earth would a child with a parent require a space closer to the front of a store/building???? Aren't we as a society lazy and fat enough without making kids think they have another reason not to get a little exercise. Come on, walk a little, it won't kill you I promise!
