My kitchen has black appliance, pine wood floors, cabients, and celing with off while counter tops, it is a very large space. I now have it wall papered but want to up date the walls. This is set in a log house. Love color , I will be keeping all the other things the same as they are. I would live a color that would go with different seasonal settings. Thanks for your time and creative input.

If it was me.... I would go with a deep red color(take a gallon of deep red and add a pint of metalic gold - this gives and incredible depth to the color). Red is a very versitile color. In the spring flowers are coming up in that color, in the fall leaves are that color, in the winter it reminds of christmas, and in the summer it just feels good. Also the depth that is added by the gold allows colors like green, burnt oranges, bright yellows coordinate well.

Well the first thing I would do is lose the wallpaper. Try to take advantage of the rustic look. I would actually recommend installing the surrounding cabinet walls and countertop backboard with 1/4" wainscott or board n' batton style paneling. You can the finish it with stain. If you want a solid colour, use a solid stain or eggshell finish paint, probably something in a neutral tone like an off-white or maybe taupe. The black appliances are going to clash no matter what you do so you may as well make them stand out as much as possible.

You may want to investigate lazure painting.

It is a technique which layers different colors and is finished with a glaze.

It takes a bit more work than some other painting, but is not hard to do and produces an amazing look. The wall will look different from different angles, at different times of day and year depending on the lights, etc.

It is a wonderful way to add a spark to a room.

(If you have a Waldorf School near you, there is a probably a teacher or parent who is familiar with the technique)

best,
