...not too long ago, the media was serious about his entry at Sandhurst, thinking the giddiness of his last dodgy few years might be slapped out of him, and the brain of a mature young man expertly inserted. Now...the media hype seems to be all kaputski - the top knobs have decided he will not be sent to Afghanistan on account that it's a too dangerous place for a prince.
Well, actually...it's too dangerous for anyone else in uniform. If his unit goes to war, then should he, otherwise his enrolment might be seen as a joke...much more serious than his Nazi-armband skank, etc. of time past

Yes, Adrianne & Rosbif...Kabul isn't Port Stanley, hence the top brass' apparent concern

Because he is not next in line for the throne, he is more likely to go as not. But that said he would be promoted to a position that would minimise danger to him.
Royal men join the defence forces because of tradition. Look at things historically, the Kings were the heads of their armies, and relatives of the king all held important roles in the various parts of the army or held smaller armies themselves. While the royal role in society is somewhat diminished these days, the tradition continues.

All the Royals join a military service. Andrew was in the Navy and he went to The Falklands. It's the media saying that he won't go to war with his unit but only time will tell.
As for him wearing a Nazi armband - so what. The media and the public laughed their **** off when Freddie Star did it but if it's a Royal then they make a big noise out of it.

What you got against Prince Harry? It's my impression he and his brother are pretty nice guys, given the poor blokes never get any privacy.
Yes, it is traditional for princes to get a taste of the military, and quite a good tradition it is. And no, it does not make sense to send him into a war zone. If you're going to have royals, you should acknowledge that they deserve special treatment. That's what royals are all about, aren't they? To be the symbol of all that's special about England? Otherwise why spend the money and put them through all that pressure?

It's British Royal tradition for the sons to serve in some military capacity. Many of them served in the Royal Navy. Harry chose the Army, as I believe William has done as well.

Life of privilege in or out of uniform.
The reason they all go on a Military careers is for the establishment to have control.

That is weird. Prince Andrew fought in the Falklands war, so there's a precedent for modern royalty getting deployed to war zones.

He is in the army because he wants to follow in the footsteps of his father - Major James Hewitt!
As far as your question goes - yes he should go, but his unit probably wont go so he wont have to - or he will be conveniently promoted or transferred to another unit.

If they do send him I am sure he will be far away from anywhere dangerous. It's all tradition and symbolic anyway. I don't know but did Andrew see combat in the Falklands?
