The development and building up of the new super-country would spur our economy for centuries and stop the bickering.

Also, I believe this would give us other viable political parties to help balance out the elections.

My first preference is that we just start enforcing our own immigration laws first.

Yes, we should.Any nation that cannot keep it's citizens within it's borders has lost the confidence of the people, and therefore, it's soverignty. Those who think this solution lacks compassion should consider what mexicans are running from when they cross our borders illegally. They're not terrorists and drug dealers, they're good, albeit desperate people who are tired of poverty, corruption and civil rights abuses.Suffice it to say that we have plenty of that ourselves, but not to the degree Mexico has.Mexico's indifference to the problems of illegal immigration has made them a threat.Mexico is far and away more in our military interest, on geographical proximity alone, than Iraq ever could be.Those on the left should stop to consider how much they are actually supporting the republican owned businesses who hire these people by opposing all attempts to control illegal immigration. As for how much work mexico needs, it might be tough at first, but in the end, we would have a much more profittable and stable situation.and we would also be able to provide better jobs for the people who live there.

I was thinking about this myself. We are already supporting the country now, why not try and get some money back? There are a lot of pros and cons to it through, and I don't see Mexico allowing that any time soon. One pro would be that we could better handle the drug trade and border since the border into Mexico from South American is smaller that the Mexican-American border. Cons is the mass amount of welfare since Mexico is a poor country. But then a lot of that is from government corruption. I think the best option is for border control, but the border is so big, how could it be done? We also need to change some of our laws and enforce the standing ones.

No, as nice as that sounds the answer is not that simple. Many more problems would appear. Too many to mention-you will have to dwell on those yourself.
Maybe time will take care of a few. Time we have before what you say could take place anyways.
And yes we need to implement our immigration laws to begin with. Some of out strengths which made this Nation great have now become our weakness.
Life here might be our subtle instructor will we learn it the hard way or not--is still open to question. And how one views it, another.

51st state of the union...would that make New Mexico then the " Old New Mexico"?
May be we should give a new name the new 51st state like Hmm.

1) The state of Taco Bell.

2) The state of hot and fatty food.

3) The state amigos and college party towns.

4) The state of white minorities.

5) The state of high hopes and low development...wait that's Louisiana.

It's an interesting idea. We would be fulfilling the original concept of Manifest Destiny. There are extremists in Mexico who believe in taking back the land that the U.S. annexed after the Mexican War in 1846. They believe that the western territories absorbed by the U.S. after that war can be reclaimed through "babies, not bullets". By annexing Mexico, we would be beating those extremists to the punch.

That would be awesome, truely awesome. It would take a lot of time to adapt, and it would be a sacrifice to many, but imagine the possibilities. We would be dealing with an insane increase in corruption of course, and screw public education or social security. Imagine what it would be like to get your drivers license renewed, you'd have to bribe the lady behind the counter, I'd love it, because usually, in corrupt societies, things are cheaper, you just have to deal with stuff life dead dogs in the street and getting robbed at gun point on your commute to work. And politicians would be even more untouchable because who could possibly organize a national recount in less than 4 years anyway for a country THAT BIG??? We can't even do it now. Sweet idea.

While interesting, this isn't a good course of action. Then we'd waste trillions on reforms down there, and nothing would change. Plus we'd probably have to learn Spanish. Also, we'd have problems with immigrants from even poorer countries, like El Salvador, Panama, Nicuragua, or pretty much all of those countries to our south.

Can you spell NO?

I agree with your first impression.

I believe that annexing Mexico would not benefit the US.

I say, Apply for citizenship, learn English and don't expect people to bend to your country traditions in the country you fled to.

Stay where you are happiest.

Have you ever been to Mexico? It needs alot of work. I mean ALOT. Roads, bridges, phone/cell phone/internet services - & trying to work around a cultural difference, then there is health care, social services, corruption (although we deal with that enough here, too). I don't know if it would be a good idea. I think the citizens of the country would like their country to remain their own & not have another power take it over.
