Bush and the rest of the politicians are well over 18 but I say, raise the age and let those that have not served or fought for this country do a few years so they can see what sacrifice our military personnel make on a daily basis.

After all, you can not expect today's youth to be any more honorable or have any more ethical standards than those who lead the country

I did two years National Service in the Royal Air Force. I was a shy, withdrawn little squirt who found life very hard at first. But I discovered that the discipline and the training that I received changed my life and I thoroughly enjoyed my time. It helped me to study and train for my chosen career and developed me as a person. I think that many young people are missing out on this valuable experience although some get this kind of training in other ways. I think the opportunity should be given for young people to do a two year period in the services or some similar kind of community service but I would not want to see it made compulsory.

i honestly think that we need to bring this back. We have to do something to bring back as sense of belonging and achievement for our children. Its not just about national service - its about putting the right money into ALL schools, making all types of learning interesting for children, get them inspired at an early age, let children be children instead of forcing them to grow up too soon. Get cookery back on to the education agenda - stop selling off schools fields for housing and get our kids moving again. If we put the time and effort in early, supported those children who don't come from an affluent background, and picked up on learning difficulties earlier and addressed these sensitively tehn maybe we can engage the next generations and we wouldn't need national service - get some proper leisure facilites out there for kids, give them an interest, pay them some attention and put a stop to mindless violence. if we dont stop and do something soon we wont have a future so we won't need national service!!!!!

yes cause that would really work. I'm guessing you would be above national service age and wouldn't be eligible. National service was exactly that for the nation no exclusions. It may be better to find them guilty of a crime and offer them heavy prison sentence or the army. Whys should normal law abiding citezens have to suffer? If you combined it with a trade or education you may even have useful people when they come out

I think National Service should be brought back. 2 years in the forces is compulsary. Either after someone has completed their education, or if they are still in education, say, at 17 and they commit an offence, send them straight to the forces.

A good idea, unfortunately most of these hoodies are starting life as young as 8/9 year olds

As soon as they leave school. Don't give em a chance, get em while there may be some feelings of respect and decency left in em. Let them big M.P.s deal with em if they want to pull any of their stunts while they're in there. They'll soon realise that they are letting themselves, their mates, and most of all their country DOWN.

granted these yobs all love to wear the same anonymous uniforms. Perhaps Nike would design the Combat gear for them? If we can't put them on the front line in Iraq perhaps we could have armies of them picking up litter and removing graffiti.

Why? Is being in the army a punishment?
Is what you really want a National Brainwashing Service?
