Go to this web site and find what type of mushroom you have to see if it is poisonous or not. Do not just go ahead and eat it look first there are lots of poisonous mushroom that are not edible. This is a good site to look at.

My husband and I look for morrels every year. From what I understand the way the stem meats the head of the mushroom is what determines this. The stem seems to go into the head, instead of meeting up with it. I hope this helps!!!

The only 100% accurate way is to use a dichotomous key. A series of two statements, one true and one will be false. This will lead to a correct identification.

A field guide (book) that is specific to mushrooms, with pictures.
Otherwise assume they are poisonous! No sarcasm intended, just don't want to see anyone harmed :)
