I am trying to find a recipe for vanilla frosting for my little brother's birthday cake. It can't be too sweet, but it needs to be thick, like the pillsbury frosting. Please help me find a recipe. If you need more info, just ask.

Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

1 cup sugar
1/3 cup water
6 egg yolks, lightly beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups butter, softened
6 tablespoons confectioners' sugar

DIRECTIONS
In a heavy saucepan, bring sugar and water to a boil; cook over medium-high heat until sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat. Add a small amount of hot mixture to egg yolks; return all to the pan, stirring constantly. Cook 2 minutes longer or until mixture thickens, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla. Cool to room temperature.
In a mixing bowl with the whisk attachment, cream butter until fluffy, about 5 minutes. Gradually beat in cooked sugar mixture. Beat in confectioners' sugar until fluffy, about 5 minutes. If necessary, refrigerate until frosting reaches spreading consistency. Store in the refrigerator.

My favorite is buttercream, take a stick of butter ( softened but not melted) add a little vanilla or some flavoring and then stiffen using powdered sugar a little at a time until it reaches the right consistency. Once you have frosted the cake , stick it in the fridge if possible so the butter wont soften.

Most home made frostings use milk, vanilla, butter and powdered sugar. Did you try foodtv.com? I am sure that there is a recipe on there and they usually contain the nutrition information.

Can just use whipped whipping cream. Or, use Jello Pudding mix made with one and a half cups milk, mixed with a packet of whipped topping made up.
