If she owns the shop... a Thank You and a reference or two will suffice.
If she rents her space, The same applies in tattoos as it does in a good restaurant. anywhere from 15% to 18 % of the total bill.

It would really depend on the size of the tattoo, along with how much detail there is going to be. A small, plain tattoo, I'd probably tip like $5, if they did it well. Medium, I'd say $15-20, especially if there is more detail. Bigger ones I would say $50 o above, especially if there was a lot of detail or extra care put in there.

It depends on the cost of the tattoo. If I were getting something small that runs like $50 I would tip $8-10, if it were over that $15-20. but that's just me.

If the artist is also the business owner, he should not expect a tip since he sets the price. If he is an employee, I'd say 10-15%, but like a restaurant, more if you are pleased with the results and less if you are not.

I have tipped between $10 and $20 for mine - (I have 3). The last time I got one I tipped the artist and he kind of looked at me strange - like he never was given a tip before...that was odd to me. He is doing his job. You have to tip a server in a restaurant, you tip a hair dresser...why not tip someone who is working so hard to give you a perminant piece of artwork that you will carry with you for the rest of your life....think about it - that meal you tipped for will be gone in a matter on minutes and that hair cut will be grown out soon enough.

Between 15% and 20%. Depending on how much you liked the tattoo. If you were horribly scarred then 0.

Just like hair stylists - about 10 to 15% - more if is really outstanding work that is beyond you expectations. Of course they understand if you had to dig in the piggybank just to pay for the tat but it is customary and a compliment.
