Juicy-I also don't think that sealing off the borders will slow immigration. It will, however, give rise to more human ingenuity.

I think that illegal immigration it ok IF:

the people immigrating are here for honest reasons, and want to try to earn an honest living.

They can provide a cheap labor force for our economy, and are probably better off in the U.S. than in their own country.

Everybody talks about hos bad is having the illegal immigrants in this country. I know how scary sounds the 12,000,000 number, BUT we have to go deeper and understand that they have a really rough time too trying to survive and make their life better... They live hiding and scared. They are afraid to go to the doctor and feel like living in a jail. Maybe some people think they enjoy this miserable life, but the problem is that they have to put up with all these humiliation because they need a better life. Besides, I would like to remind people that illegal immigrants are not taking jobs away from anybody, they only get to get the jobs that anybody else wants. I mean, there's no citizen of the united states that is going to work picking up fruits in a farm for a couple of cents!!! And if USA hasn't throw them out for the past years is because they obviously know that USA needs the illegal immigrants. Therefore, I don't think immigration is a problem, the problem is the individualism, the hatred, and the racism...

Illegal immigration is a problem. Not just with the US, but with any country. Additional population puts additional strain on the social services networks and reduces the effectiveness and availability for everyone. For a country like Canada, with free health care, an illegal immigrant using that service means one less legitimate citizen can be treated.

For the US, illegal immigration over-stresses welfare, social security, the job market, quality of goods and public safety. In Arizona, we have one of the highest immigration problems. Because illegals can't get insurance, the rates here are higher than most other states. When someone without insurance hits me, I have to pay everything, therefore, I pay higher insurance.

The benefits are that contractors and other employers can get cheap labor that they don't have to pay taxes for. The downside to this is that the quality of the work done by immigrant workers is so poor that houses here last about 15 years before major renovation is needed.

Another problem that can be associates with illegal immigration is a higher crime rate. This may not be an entirely valid association, but many of the petty crimes I read about in my area are attributed to young Hispanic males. Since the majority of the illegal immigrants in my area are Hispanic, and many of them seem to live in fear of deportation, this isn't a hard assumption nor completely invalid.

Usually illegal immigrants have a lower standard of living, either by choice or because they are sending money back to Mexico, at least in my area. This can cause a drop in property values and also reduces the local money that stays in the local economy. Money has become an export, meaning that less of it is available for local residents, illegal or no.

These are my thoughts...

See and read what is happening in Europe with Immigrants and how the country and culture changes not always for the better, but also allot for the worse. We should be more willing to learn from other countries and the problems it submits. Illegal Immigration is not just unjust toward those who are taken the legal route and have to wait, sometimes for years, but also dangerous. We are basically saying America has no boundaries and laws, meaning a lawless country. And that is what we'll attract and try to fight and resolve here. Just think of the crime rate here in the US, a free country. How free are we really when we give freedom to the lawless?

Of course illegal immigration is a problem.

Border security and national security is only a small part of it.

Every country in the world that subsidizes services like education above the amount poor people can afford to pay in taxes needs and has limits on how many poor people can immigrate. They are a net financial loss. As importantly, the loss occurs in the areas of services most needed by our most vulnerable population - education for our children and health care for our sick, and the availability of aid to OUR families with dependant children. Those services are being degraded for our own people all the time we are the ones funding the programs.

This is not fair or right.

In addition, just as the people who come value and want to hold on to their culture, the people who live here value their own. When so many newcomers come that the host people feel that their own culture is being destroyed when they never left home, that has always created social problems.

In short, I think we need to take care of our own people, and particularly our own children's education and should enforce our immigration laws everywhere services are offered that illegal immigrants take advantage of. I wouldn't deny emergency health care, but I think intentionally not asking immigration status in hospitals so immigration limits can be enforced after giving that treatment encourages more to come. I feel the same way about schools. You only have to look at the ruin of the once great LA Unified School District to see why the need to protect our own children's education has grown desparate. Desparate times require strong measures.

Illegals are a big problem in America.
Where ever there is a large number of illegals, the crime rate is going through the roof.
Every states welfare systems are being over taxed to the breaking point. their police forces are also over taxed to the breaking point.
Most of the illegals coming into the U.S. are not educated, cannot speak the language and if they can't find work they turn to stealing to survive.
If ask they will tell you, they don't want to be Americans. They are Mexican and proud of it.
Soon the illegals will be fighting amongst themselves, there are only so many menial jobs to be done.
I in no way am a racist. I am a law abiding citizen and do not feel anyone should be able to break our laws without punishment.
At the illegals rallies, they yelled they were not criminals.
But they became criminals by entering our country without proper authorization. If you break the law you commit a crime, there fore you are a criminal.

As a the child of immigrants I believe there is a problem with illegal immigration. First off there are legal means by which to get into this country. When illegals come here they hurt the chances of many who want to do it the legal way. secondly when people illegaly come to this country they only work certain jobs (usually very low paying) and live in very poor neighborhoods. the children of these illegals will grow up without an education and usually end up teenage parents on welfare. this cylce is very difficult to break. this is a drain on this country. i am for immgration but done through legal channels.

Yes, it is a problem in America today. Beside the numbers of illegal immigrants overburdening different areas by competing for resources such as jobs, health care, and education, they may allow some manufacturers to produce less adequate products. If an illegal immigrant saw a manufacturer using dangerous and illegal practices, that person would be torn between exposing their status to INS or exposing the company. I feel this may be one of the reasons people knowingly hire illegal immigrants, because they are unlikely to report anything to authorities who have the right to deport them.

And on the other side, illegal immigrants face harsh working and living conditions, violence, and exploitation. They may not seek medical treatment for fear of discovery that possibly creates a sicker population. They are quite often treated badly or indifferently by their employers and community. And there is a small population of criminals that are also in the illegal immigrant community.

So, yes, in my view, illegal immigration is a big problem in America and for more than the reasons I've listed. But I don't think the solution is the vigilante groups or the government actions against them. They are trying for a better life as all of us would. Compassion must be part of how we decide to deal with this issue.

Maybe you've seen this -
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these
protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends
who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard-working and honest, um, except for well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only
a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice and being an anti-housebreaker.

Oh yeah, and I want you to learn MY language so you can communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America

I don't think it's a huge problem. Some people say that immigrants take jobs away from americans. How many of those americans are going to work at a minimum wage job washing dishes or cleaning construction sites? If they don't want the jobs, but don't let the immigrants in, either the job won't get done, or the employer will have to raise the salary until they can get an american to take it. Then you'll pay more for food, services, products, etc.

I would like to see a more liberal guest worker program. Workers from other countries can register and enter, work for a set period and pay taxes, etc, then go home for a set amount of time before they return.

And if we stopped all immigration, the US would start LOSING population, not gaining. The US birth rate doesn't match the death rate. The same is happening all over the world - immigrants from the 3rd world are the main reason that industrialized countries are growing.

The problem with illegal immigration TODAY is the terrorists. They are coming across the boarders too and are bring things (bombs, heroin, chemicals) that are NOT meant to do any good to the US. Also, it sounds like a cliche`, but illegals are a drain on the social care system. Many are hard working, but not enough. IF they want to be in the US, they need to go through the proper channels. The US hit a population of 300,000,000 the other day, and it seems as though half are illegal aliens. Where are the Men in Black when we need them?
