Bottom line you have to make yourself a valued member of the job. Meaning over time - No problem, in early - no problem. Extra work- no problem. Be that person every one wants around. Make yourself so valuable that you are needed every were. An internship is no joke so work harder than ever. Ask questions and always smile at extra work after all they will be doing you a favour when they ask you to do it. Good luck it took me 8 years to bust through now I am the main mother in charge.

At this moment you may think that you might want to work at this place after you graduated. thats what i thought on one of my internships. But looking back im glad I dont work there. If you are applying for a job next year or in a couple years, your future employer is probably not going to call this place to ask questions about you and they probably wont even remember you. So I would say if you dont really enjoy being there, just coast by. do the least amount of work you can. Act like you do enjoy your job, but just use it as a stamp on your resume and concentrate on the big picture. Are you really going to stay with this company??? If not look at other ones

Are you behaving like a timid wall flower ?
Maybe the other person is more extroverted and a self starter ? You can be more aggressive, although in a professional way. Usually the 'invisible' people are the ones standing around waiting for someone to notice, while the noticed ones are out there actually 'doing'.

First beleive in yourself and your ability to be good at whatever you are doing. Do not see anyone as the source of your self confidence.
While they may be giving someone else credit it doesnt mean that that person is giving them quality service. Therefore its entirely up to you to give of your best.

Be on time, smile, ask questions, be a seeker of information NOT a suck-up, show interest, be an initiator. The corporate world does not own you any thanks, however you sure get gain a lot if you demonstrate that you will survive in the dog-eat-dog world of office politics

It's time to step your game up my friend. Get to know the boss a little better--on a business level and ya gotta dig in to where you know you got them where you want them. That way you can just work your way up to your desired position
