I live in Minnesota, not that it means a rat's a*s about anything but we are home to the Spam Museum. Spam was produced in Minnesota for many years and the town where the plant was located decided to do an annual festival celebrating Spam and the many ways it can be used. Each year people come from all over the United States to this festival to do everything SPAM.

Now the good part, I've never tasted the stuff, never bought a can, never received one in my Christmas stocking or never put one in a charity grocery bag. I know I could name the town that hosts the Museum & festival but there is some little thing stopping my brain from remembering what the name of that town might be. And yes, according to folk lore, if you eat your Spam regularly, you won't ever need to buy Viagra.... Take care

Spam is a meat product in a can processed by Hormel that is also known as spiced ham. Although it has a relatively bad rep, it it basically the same meat mixture and processing as most luncheon meats, including a wagon full of salt. It gained massive popularity in the 40's as it was sent to our soldiers during WWII, and at that time, not a bad deal: having meat in areas that an enlisted man would not be able to enjoy. It retained it's popularity in the 50's as is was readily available on your own pantry shelf, not needing refrigeration until opened. It is now basically a cult foodstuff, either you like it or you hate it. It is actually better cold because the salt factor doesn't seem to come out as much. It sort of has a dog food smell, probably from the processing to make it "cannable", no not cannibal! Try it, you may or may not like it!

Spam is a canned meat product made by the Hormel Foods Corporation. It has gained a peculiar infamy, along with something of a place in pop culture, and has even entered into folklore and urban legend.

Spam is produced in (among other places) Austin, Minnesota, USA (aka Spam Town USA). The labeled ingredients in the original variety of Spam are chopped pork shoulder meat with ham meat added, salt, water, sugar, and sodium nitrite.

Other varieties of Spam differ; Spam Lite contains pork and chicken, and Spam Oven Roasted Turkey is a halaal food, meaning that it is allowed under Islamic law, and is especially popular in Muslim markets. It also comes in a low-salt variety.

the name spam is actually a contraction of 'spiced ham'. It has a bad reputation but it's really not that bad.
