YES! They do grow your hair because when your hair is being braided, your hair is being pulled. When trhey are loose, that means that they have grown your hair-and it's time take them down.

I am sorry to tell you this but...

my hair grows really, really, really slow it seems and I have asked every expert possible and they all tell me the same thing -

hair grows on average of 1/2 and inch every 6 months. Nothing will help your hair grow faster - but...

if your hair is brittle or dry it can break causing it to seem as if it is not growing at all (this is my problem by the way).

Take a daily vitamin, and an extra vitamin E suppliment to help your hair stay healthy which will prevent it from breaking so easily. The problem with this is that the hair you already have will not be affected, only the new growth. To improve your current hair, purchase a vitamin enriched shampoo and conditioner and try a hot oil treatment once a week. Also, do not put your hair in a ponytail because this also causes it to break at the site of the hair band. If you are required to pull it back then braiding it is a good option.

Braids do not help your hair grow. People like to put their hair in braids so they do keep messing with it or having to do anything to it. Your hair grows while it's braided just like it does if it's not. Braiding actually pulls your hair out and thats where the breakage comes from. Braiding also receeds your hairline. Just make sure you keep it trimmed every six to ten weeks to help control damage and split ends. Hope this helps.

braids do help your hair to grow but they shouldnt be done too often every four to five months. if braids are on too tight they damage ur root of your hair, so they should be put on lose. so be careful.

Actually, in school, they told us that constant stress on the base (root) end of the hair just made more of it fall out, so braiding, tight buns, etc. can be detrimental in the long run.

I've heard braiding it before bed, helps it not break while you are sleeping.

Yes it does but if it is too tight it will pull it out especially around the edges.
