I do push-ups which have helped tone my bicep muscles. What can I do to tone triceps? I don't want to build them, just slim them.

Well let me first point out that there is absolutely no biceps stress in a push up.

The primary muscles used are:pectoralis major/minor,anterior deltoids and triceps. There is secondary stimulus to the latissimus dosri and medial deltoids.
If you want to target the triceps even more move you hands inward closer together.Push outward at the same time.Note that no exercise will decrease body fat in a specific area.

Dips and kick backs are other exercises you can do at home for triceps.

Sit on the side of the weight bench and slide off only using your arms to hold you up behind you and do dips using your own body weight. Also try using a light dumbell and use both of your arms while seated extending it over your head. Using a cable extension use light weights and push down the cable and make sure to stop the weights when your arms at 90 degrees and parallel to the floor. All these are extremely good exercises for your triceps only and isolate them very well. Just do the light weights but do a ton of reps to tone them up.

The question has already been spoke back very properly - yet i could no longer face as much as a sprint a rant approximately one in each of my 'puppy peeves' that seems in countless responses - specifically that the muscle groups contained in the arm are stated as the "triceps" and the "biceps" no longer the "tricep" and the "bicep". IE you have one triceps on your left arm and yet another triceps on your proper arm. It comes from the total Latin call for the muscle, that's "triceps brachii" (Rant over)

Actually, you were right by doing pushups! But all you have to do is move your hands inward, below your chest. Do the pushups with your hands a couple of inches apart. You might notice that it is harder to do the same number of reps...but you will be isolating the triceps, and you'll definitely be getting a great tricep workout.

Good luck, tone those tri's!

The only function a muscle can perform is to contract. Extending your arm to do pushups requires your Tricept muscle and your deltoids to work. Your biceps are not involved to much degree when you're doing pushups.

Hold a weight in both hands, raise your arms over your head, and lower the weight behind your head. raise and lower the weight behind your head to work your tricepts. Then repeat as often as you can. Light weight/high repetitions are better for slimming, heavy weights fewer reps are for strength building.

Get a 3lbs to 8 lbs dumbbell (The smaller you are the lower the weight)

Dumbbell kick back

Grasp the dumbbell in your right hand with you palm toward your body throughout the movement.

Split your left foot forward and your right foot to the rear a little.

Bend over until your torso is parallel to the floor and place hand on a flat bench, couch, ... whatever, and keep the position. Pin your right upper arm to to the side of your torso with you upper arm parallel to the floor.

Now bend your arm back.

Triceps are funny little muscles insofar that when they are tired they quit. Don't over do it.

you can do dips, those work great!

some gyms have weight machines to build/tone. if you dont wanna build just use low weight and do lots of reps.

my fav. tricep excercise: you can use a free weight - hold it straight up above your head with elbow parallel to ur head, then lower weight behind ur head til it touches shoulder and raise back up straight. make sure that your elbow is parallel to ur head the whole time, otherwise u are targeting another muscle.
