According to the bible, the true church is not a building or a man made thought at all.

The true church is made up of believers in God and in the Messiah he sent to save us from ourselves. We believe that after Jesus Christ rose to heaven to prepare a place for us that he sent the comforter (bringer of light and truth) Holy spirit to keep evil at bay (not gone, just held back).

THe church (body of Christ) is told in Gods word to assemble together to worship and to fellowship and to keep one another strong in Gods word. The position of Deacon was established by the apostles in order to have one or more servents of God that would be responsible for taking care of the widows and children, not to make a business entity or control the body of Christ.

So, the true church is inside you if you believe in Gods word and all he has done, all that he is doing and all that he will yet do. Assemble together with other believers to worship God, fellowship with each other and keep each other strong in the word. If you find this, you have found the "true" church.

Well, if you eliminate most of the stupid ones, there are only a few "major" religions.

These include Christianity, Islam, Buddhists, Hindu's, and Jews.

Since all Christianity branched off from Catholicism during its dark ages, we can group all of those into one religion. They all really believe the same thing anyway, with subtle differences.

I am a Catholic, and I ask the same question to my mother-in-law constantly. She only replies with "I just know", but any religion could say that.

I just say, if you are a member of one of he five major religions, you have about a 1-in-5 chance of "getting it right". Even if you include all the stupid "religions" like Scientology, lets make that an even 15% chance of getting it right.

Well, even if you aren't right, and you are faithful to your religion, I think you'll be OK. Let's pretend the Jew's were right, and Jesus wasn't the Savior. Do you really think God will say "well, you listened to this man, who told you to be peaceful and good, but he wasn't the Savior, so you are going to hell"? I doubt it.

So as long as you are a pretty good person, and follow SOME sort of religion, I personally don't believe you will go to hell. I think some people will wait longer than others, a LOT longer, but unless your a pedophile or murderer you should be alright.

Also, you can pretty much refute Atheism, because if you knew anything about Physics or Biology, you would know there is no way our bodies or the earth could have just "happened". They are way too complex, and that needed some sort of supreme power.

Pray about it. Everyone is different, you might rather to go to a different church than your friends. Just make sure when you pick a church it is one the you get "spiritually filled" at.
And don't pick it just because a hot guy/girl goes there, church is for your relationship with God NOT another person!!!!
You can still fellowship, but don't let that be the reason you pick a church.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only church that I've ever heard to claim they're the true church.

I avoid "religious bodies" with everything in me. The true church is the body of believers in Christ. Pray and ask God where he would have you be apart, He will tell you where to be.

When you go to a church, if Jesus is welcome, he will be there. And you will know his presence.

It all depends on what you take a stand for - and also how you interpret the Bible. There are many theologies and denominations out there - but generally one main link. Jesus Christ. (At least this is mostly true. Sometimes those religious sects and cults can get a little loopy.)

If you want you can look into your bible and read this passage:
in Matthew 16:

16 Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven. 20 Then he commanded his disciples, that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ.

The True Church is those who believe in Jesus, Jesus's Bride The church in spirtuality and in physicality is the church that the apostels started Jesus clearly states that with Peter he begins his church.

then you could look into history and look where the apostle went and died and who he passed down his authority to and then after and then after... until the 1500's when martin Luther started his own church... Martin Luther had no issues with most of the practices followed by The Church his big issue was paying money for those in purgatory , celibacy, and then the papal authority..
