I really don't think so, but you can
go down to your local consumer
electronics store and have them
try it for you to find out for yourself.

Mk...the straight poop. There are two new video formats comming out right now. Both are trying to replace the standard DVD. A standard DVD has a resolution of 420. The new High Definition (HD) TV's are capable of 1080 resolution. So the new formats are out so they can do what your TV can do. Besides HD-DVD's there are Blu-ray disc's comming out too. Blu-rays hold more information that an HD-DVD, but the players do cost more initially. I'd wait a while to see which format wins before you invest 500-1000 dollars on the latest video players. Also FYI...a DVD holds as much info as 6 cds, and a Blu-ray disc holds the same amount of info as 4-5 DVDs just to give you an idea of whats going on with the new media wars.

You CAN NOT play an HD DVD on a regular DVD machine! The marks that make up the ones and zeros on a HDDVD are TOO SMALL for a regular DVD player to distinguish. There is talk of some titles having two sides, however, and one side will work with a DVD player, the other, a HDDVD player.
10/31 - Exotic Saltwater Aquarium (DVD/HD-DVD Combo - delayed from 9/26), Antarctica Dreaming: Wildlife on Ice (DVD/HD-DVD Combo - delayed from 10/21), Fireplace: Visions of Tranquility (DVD/HD-DVD Combo - delayed from 10/21), Visions of the Sea: Explorations (DVD/HD-DVD Combo - delayed from 10/21)

Depends, some of the new HD-DVD movies (Army of Darkness for one) have both HD and standard DVD formats on one disc. If it is only HD format, it will not play on standard DVD players. I have the new Toshiba HD-DVD player

No, it's a whole new format. HD-DVD discs will NOT play on a normal DVD player.

Yes, as far as I know you can. HD pertains to the television rather than the DVD itself
