I usually use the word in context of being stupid. I have either said or done something so daft and stupid that pillock seems the best word also if someone else has done the same i refer to them as a pillock normally ex husband. lol
I do think the word comes from some where in the past but not sure.

pillock n. Idiot. You could almost decide having read this dictionary that any unknown British word is most likely to mean "idiot". And you could almost be right. We have so many because different ones sound better in different sentences. On the subject of the word in hand, I am told by a contributor that it's a contraction of the 16th century word "pillicock" (describing the male member) and by another (who admits to not being completely sure) that this may be a male animal with one lone testicle and derived from "bullock". It's funny, even if it's not true...

I already answered this question last Wodinsday. [edit] "People can choose to worship a cow; or a bug; but we all know that is crazy and not to be compared with worshipping God the Creator." You're right, there's clearly a difference between worshiping a physical being such as a cow, and worshiping a deity for whom there is absolutely no credible evidence.

there used to be suchj a thing as a pillock of salt (no not pillar) maybe it is derived from that,

and some one above me said pregnant fish - sorry but thats a prat

According to dictionary.com a pillock is a person that is not very bright.

it makes me cringe when i hear that word. my name is pilott. u would not believe how many times ive been called mr pillock in public. Hospital dr's etc.
