The weaving industry was the first to truly become mechanized. The cotton jenny made it possible to process cotton to make threads, and the mechanical looms used that thread to weave cloth. It was very revolutionary at the time and while it was good for the cloth and clothing business, it threw thousands of hand-weavers out of business. But it was the beginnning of the Industrial Revolution.
