You know the historical reason was the line of succession to the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh). I think the current reason is more a question of wars fought, offenses taken and retaliations committed and of course there is still the line of succession thing. They have a different set of religious leaders, different mosques etc.

well shiites are a minority and are more kingly than the king, ever heard of that saying?

Theyre affiliated with the bunch that loved Hazrat Ali (a companion and relative of the Prophet) and they thought he shud have been the first Caliph instead of number 4.

Theyre literally stuck in the past.

You mean Shias and Sunnis. Shias are Shi'ites.
