my children are just about 8 yrs apart...my 8 and a half . year old daughter and a 8 month old son. I would not have it any other way!!! I am able to spend more quality time with my daughter and then when she goes out, talk on the phone, I spend quality time with him. I am hardly pulled in different directions. All my friends who have kids close in age are going absoulety nuts and envy me. They are close..even though they are so spaced apart...she takes care of her brother. It's great. He did go through a fussy period for a few months and cuz i did not have a toddler and an older child instead, she understood why i could not tend to her every need and did the things herself. Do other people have their kids spaced apart?

Yes mine are spaced 6 years apart. I love it too because you get to enjoy each one during the very important young years. My sister and a friend both have 4 within 5 or 6 years of eachother and those kids are a lot more attention seeking then mine.

Not Mine. My son is 6, my daughtr is 2 and my son is 1. The youngest two are only 12 months apart and they're like best friends. Me and the six year old spend a lot of time together because the youngest two are always off playing in another room and getting into trouble. I couldn't imagine space between them, it works out so well for us. The only thing I hate is how damn long I've been changing diapers. when they were both in diapers I would change between 12-16 diapers a day. Talk about a huge nightmare.

wow stnd, your sis needs to make those kids do some chores. My kids, barring the 1 year old all do housework. I'm left with cleaning toilets, vacuuming, dishes and cooking. the toy and trash messes are the kids problem if they don't pick up after themselves. We spend a total of about 1 hour a day doing real cleaning and the rest of the time is all play time and homework time.

My two sons are 23 and 12. It's like I raised two "only children"! I was under the misconception that my oldest would be excited by a younger brother, but it didn't work out that way. They're so far apart that they don't even know each other. To make matters worse, they have two different fathers due to divorce, and the youngest ones' dad passed away when he was three. This almost teenage young man has no father, and no older brother around to be role models. It's been very hard. I do feel that it's a blessing that I only had the financial expense one at a time.

My kids are 5 yrs apart. Actually it's my b/f's 10 yr old boy and my 5 yr old boy. I still consider his son to be mine since he is with us 5 days of the week most of the time. Right now it may seem easy for you, but wait, it will be harder. When we first got together it was easy because the older boy enjoyed having any child to play with. Now, it's harder because he is getting older and is able to do things (i.e. ride his bike farther, play ball with older kids down the street, etc.) and my son it still a bit restricted. It may be different for you because you have a girl and a boy but it's hard with us because we have 2 boys. When they fight it's full body contact. It's not always horrible but I do wish they were a bit closer in age. My son follows the lead of the older boy to a T and that just doesn't always work. Again, with having the older girl, it may be easier because girls are, by nature, more apt to caring for younger siblings. Hopefully she understands that sometimes the little one is going to want her attention as he grows, even if her friends are around. I wish you the best.

i have 5 children...12 yr daughter, 10 1/2 yr son, 8 yr daughter, 5 year son and 3 1/2 yr daughter. We are finally at the point of bliss with the children's ages. It wasn't all fun and games when the children were younger, but we made it. My oldest children are awesome helpers and when they have no one to play with, they have each other. I love our big family.

I have 6 kids 21,19,16,13,11 and 9.Sometimes it was hard but they are all close. They help each other and look out for one another.I make sure I spend time with them one on one .Maybe a shopping trip for one or a lunch with the other.Or just play tea party ! The 19 yr old and the 11 yr old are boys.My oldest son is great with his brother.Loves to take him fishing or to a ball game with him. The girls do the same.

In our family the average span is 6 - 10 years apart. Each child was an only child and got the attention they deserved....then learned to share the limellight with the following sibling when the time came.

If one can space children, its great....not always possible tho! :)

That sounds great to me! I'm planning on spacing my two kids out five years. Doctors recommend 2-5 years in between siblings. I agree, I don't imagine having them too close together is that great, seems stressful.

just wait til they get older!!! my children are 8 1/2 yrs apart- its like having 2 "only" children...here is a prime example...Halloween! when one finally gets too old for trickortreat , the other is just getting old enough to go! you end up trickortreating for like 16 years!
