because he wants us to know that he can do anything

What was God's purpose for the dodo, the carrier pigeon, or the woolly mammoth? They were all part of the natural ecology before they went extinct (for that matter, what purpose does the tiger, whales, or the bison serve, since they are almost gone by now?).

As for the other person' question, what was God's purpose before Christianity, that's a long discussion that I don't want to get into here, but I could sum it up in a word: "Judaism".

Where are these dinosaurs in the bible? I mean obviously if god created them then why are they not mentioned somewhere? They are obviously too big to miss. I was raised in the church and I've seen the hilariousness of it all. I can't believe as humans that we think we know everything about everything. Who am I to say that there is or is not a god just because some book written along time ago that has completely changed over the years. Dinosaurs were here because they evolved from smaller species of some sort along time ago from what science has told us. I don't think God had a purpose for them if there is a god.

God created them. Genesis 1:20+ Then God said, "Let the water teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens." And God created the great sea monsters (dinosaurs), and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good.... and to multiply in the water and birds multiply in the earth...And the evening & morning , a fifth day. (This type of day is a period of time.)

The dinosaurs were also created the fifth evening & morning, day by the Word & Faith of God. They started out from eggs, brought forth in the water, as baby sea serpents, then grew, some evolved to dinosaur birds onto land. They were created the day before God created man.

Humans will never know the MIND of God (unless He graciously regales us with stories of the creation and so on when we are able to go to heaven). The most we can know (I think) is the HEART of God, and that takes a very close relationship with Him. I don't know the heart of God yet, but I want to. So I don't know God's purpose for dinosaurs. But perhaps it was similar to the purpose for creating other things, like elephants, mold, DNA, and the color orange. He just felt like it.

Huh? I don't know, but the big fools smoked themselves to death. (see The Far Side by Gary Larson) Actually, you might say that camels caused the dinosaurs to become extinct. Gee, I made a discovery!

Just like everything else He creates, dinosaurs were made to express His Glory. Mankind is not His only audience, remember.

Good point. Why did he bother? He must have known they were going to become extinct. Maybe it was just to put another stumbling block in the way of people with thinking minds and give him one more excuse to throw them in hell. Your thinking rational mind is your enemy, "the enemy within", you know, the God that gave it to you does not want you to use it. He wants you to ignore what your minds and senses tell you about natural history and trust the unscientific writings by superstitious uncivilized ancients instead.

He was having fun with evolution. I think he wanted something fun to do for a few hundred million years that wouldn't ruin his planet before bringing man into the picture.
