It's not so much how you tell them, but that you actually tell them. If they learn to trust you, then they'll trust your choices. If you two are out someplace have him walk you to the door when you arrive home. If your parents see that he cares enough to see you to the door they'll gain a little respect for him. Don't smother them with the idea of him right away. Trust comes in slow steps.
