It's not so much how you tell them, but that you actually tell them. If they learn to trust you, then they'll trust your choices. If you two are out someplace have him walk you to the door when you arrive home. If your parents see that he cares enough to see you to the door they'll gain a little respect for him. Don't smother them with the idea of him right away. Trust comes in slow steps.

First I think you should tell them by your self in a dinner or something, and then hopefully they will agree and then you can take him to meet them.
These things are never easy but have to be done.
