I don't think it's deperate, it's just a whole different way to go about meeting someone. You can me someone in a grocery store, be introduced to someoe, or be set up on a blind date. I have met guys online before. It never worked out to a relationship, but it was a cool experience.

It's not desperate. Meeting people is meeting people, regardless of where. Today, alot of communication is done online, and there are alot of interesting people out there. If you don't like going out, going to bars, have a limited number of places to go to meet people, then its a great alternative and you may be more likely to find someone with the same interests. It also depends on where online you meet them.... chat rooms are notorious for liars or cheaters,... but forums and groups can be great, and some dating sites aren't bad either. Just be selective and be careful. And use the same precautions you would have when meeting someone in person.
