Ft Carson is located south of Colorado Springs off of I-25. The Air Force Academy is located North of Colorado Springs. NORAD is to the west.
The post was on of the first Army post to go to privatized on base housing. Lots of MWR facilities on base. Denver is an hour north on I-25. The first thing you will notice once you are at Carson is that Oxygen is a little scarce up in the mountains. The view is beautiful though and makes up for the lack of oxygen. When God created Colorado he told the Coloradians... I can give you oxygen or I can give you a Gorgeous Mountain view that will take your breath away. The Coloradians took the Mountain view.
Ski sites are abound in Colorado. several are not that far and you can get up early, drive and still have time to ski as long as the passes are open.
