I hate to say it but it sounds like he wants to break up but dosent want to break your heart. so he says he wants to be friends. you can do one of two things. 1. distance yourself from him and try to find someone new. 2. You can hang out with him and just deal with the pain. I would try to find someone new to take you mind off of him. it will not be easy but it will help
