Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to "Pray without ceasing." We are to seek answers from God concerning every aspect of our lives to keep us on the straight and narrow path. I pray constantly that His will, not mine, be done, because I have tried in the past to try to take care of some problems on my own,and ended up only making things worse. Now,I put my problems completely in God's capable hands, and He has never failed me.

Well, I believe we call on God more than even aetheists realize ( when we say Oh My God! or Jesus! ) who do people think they are calling to? It is not a word like "tomato" it is a deity, the most important of all things. But to answer your question, I believe God responds to prayers when we live upright. If you constantly consciously sin, then when you find yourself in trouble you pray, I'm not sure you will be answered. But if you TRULY trust in God, that He will take care of all cuz He knows all & sees all , then your faith will guide you through trouble. When I was a teen I realized I only talked to God when I wanted something, once it hit me, I started talking to Him about anything & everything. Thanking Him ~ praising Him. And I never looked back. He takes care of His sheep, that's all I'm trying to say. Love...:o]

It should be the first thing we do but human nature usually kicks in and we try to handle things ourselves first. That's why we usually end up in an even bigger mess and we finally realize it's bigger than us and we take it to God. At least that's been my own personal experience.
However, in a situation where your life flashes before you and you feel like your're about to die it's amazing how many people call out to God to save them. Even those who claim not to believe seem to "find God" in those moments. Because our hearts and souls know He is our only salvation even when our "intellect" tries to deny it.

YES but to work ur mind too and to try to find a solutions, both (i mean praying and workink and thinking) are prallel , it is not ur thinking that is going to save and help u , it is the will of god and his mercy after all if he wants this to work out or not .........etc.
any way good luck.

Seems to me the first thing to do is to think about how the problem can be solved. If prayer is your thing, you can resort to that only if there's no way for you to be proactive in the matter.

I dont always because I think God wants us to learn how to deal with our problems ourselves instead of always turning to him or her for answers.

Not me. I don't pray. I try to do something more constructive than that. Prayer doesn't do anything except make the person feel they are doing something without actually having to do anything.
One man with a shovel can do more good than a million people praying.
